    Optimistic Nihilism

    Nihilism:
    the philosophy of total negation, all values are baseless and meaningless. A nihilist has no
    beliefs and no loyalties, and is convinced that our existence is pointless and has no purpose,
    just as the whole universe.

    But what does this mean?


    A nihilist would never go to church, as no god or supernatural power exists in their
    perception of life. Do you see that glass there? Yes? A nihilist would say it doesn’t actually
    exist, and it’s an illusion. Just as me and you.

    Optimistic Nihilism:
    The knowledge that nothing exists, and finding comfort in this thought of everything being
    meaningless.

    This is complete nonsense, isn’t it?

    We must understand that this is not about us. Not about me, not about any of you,
    not about Trump, not about Messi or Ronaldo. It’s like existence played a joke on us. We
    figured that the stars shine, but we needed a while to realize that they don’t do it for us,
    they just do. It would be very irrational to think that the 200 trillion stars and planets in the
    universe were made for us, and in the end, we must comprehend that our entity is
    completely meaningless. But, you know, the thing we should be thinking about is not the
    vast size of the universe, but time. Specifically, the time each one of us has.
    An average year has 52 weeks. An average person lives for approximately 85 years.
    This means in a lifetime, you have about 4420 weeks to live. Most of us are around 14 years
    old, and this means that we all have about 3692 weeks in our lives. It seems like a lot, but
    when you think about it, it’s not. The universe has existed for about 13.8 billion years. Feel
    meaningless yet? All this, shows us how insignificant we all are.
    Now to nihilism. Apart from us being meaningless, the world around us may not
    even exist. We may all be living in a simulation, ruled over by two crazy genius
    programmers. Close your eyes and count to one. What you see is what we may be, the time
    that has passed may be our forever.
    Each one of us only has one shot it this life- whatever it may be. Although this can
    seem threatening and scary, think about it optimistically: you have nothing to prove,
    nothing to strive for. This sets you free. If this universe ends in heat death, every humiliation
    you suffer or mistake you make in life does not matter and will be forgotten. If the universe
    has no purpose, it means that you are the one giving it purpose. You choose what happens,
    you choose what’s important and what isn’t.
    Your life is the one thing you were given to be entirely yours. Never let anyone take
    the chance away from you to choose what happens in this minor time you have the luck to
    spend on earth. And, as life may not even exist, you may as well have as much fun as
    possible.
