Agriculture, “the science or practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for
the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other
products”, plays a huge role in the lives of many. The future of agriculture depends on
us youth, and what we do to continue to build agricultural futures. As technology
continues to advance, the business that we all cherish will become bigger and better.
The way we use our knowledge and skills needed for agriculture deeply affects the
future. Working harder to make more industries and businesses will help to produce
more of what we need. Industries such as crops, raising animals, logging, ranches, etc.
all require certain skills and determination to succeed. Skills needed include time
management to be able to manage your crops, animals, and more in a timely matter,
people skills to participate in business situations, critical thinking skills to propose new
ideas to ameliorate manufacturers.
Determination plays a huge role in skill sets needed to succeed in the agricultural
field, not giving up and keeping your ‘eyes on the prize’ can greatly increase profits and
prosperity. To grasp these skills, hard work and dedication apply along with agricultural
education. Determination is a skill showing dedication to what you are focusing on. As
you keep your head focused on your goal, you will succeed along the way. Examples
included with determination could be if you are involved with something such as FFA or
4-H you need to have determination to put yourself ahead in a project or show coming
up. This skill shows others you are serious about your goals and future. This can benefit
the future of our agriculture world. Having more determined people pushing themselves
for a better future will allow the industries to keep progressively getting better and more
successful as others look to those who are determined to get the job done. This skill
plays hand in hand with time management.
Time management skills can come in handy when you are involved in
more than one club or have too much on your plate. Scheduling and planning out your
plans can benefit you greatly. An example as a highschool student who is currently
involved in FFA, time management can help you when you are also involved with sports
and have a job, but still need to be active in your FFA chapter. You need to plan ahead
so none of your activities clash. Planning ahead is one factor that can allow people to
allow themselves to succeed in all of their goals. Knowing exactly when each thing you
need to do a certain job or project will help you in planning out all of your tasks to help
you become successful. In the agricultural world industries, such as raising animals,
managing your time can play a big role. You must know when to feed your animals,
when to get more feed, or maybe allowing yourself enough time to get them ready for a
show. In all aspects of agricultural, time management is needed and greatly affects how
you perform in these industries.
People skills are greatly needed when it comes to agriculture. Businesses need
people to keep themselves afloat and the only way that is possible is being able to give
people what they need and want in a way that benefits you. Communication with others
and being able to inform them on what you do and why you do it can increase profit and
can lead to benefits for your industry. Teaching people skills to younger students will
allow more success for them as they put themselves in these agricultural industries.
Already a lot of the youth has lost many people or social skills that they need to benefit
them due to technology. To keep businesses alive that thrive today teaching them the
right way to handle situations dealing with others, whether that be for business or a
contest for FFA can improve the way they handle their future.
We need to teach the youth more ways and how they can learn and apply these
skills so they can become successful for not just their future, but for everyone's. The
youth is our future and can learn these skills and knowledge for a success. They can
learn these skills by involving themselves in youth organizations such as 4-H and FFA,
and taking classes that their schools offer while using their brain power to create new
solutions to problems in the agricultural world. Us young entrepreneurs are the future.
We must put our expertise and understanding on agriculture and the skills needed to
our best ability and make change. Working together to make industries and
manufacturers grow will lead us to better change along with better chances for a better
tomorrow.
