Activity Profile
The research unit of PSHS-BRC designed an activity for Grade 10-11 students that would give
the Grade 11 students the chance to defend their research proposals to panelist comprised of
experts in different fields, also exposing us, the Grade 10 students, to various research ideas.
Professionals of different fields, who played the role of panelist, gave constructive criticisms to
the Grade 11 students and provided insightful comments that would expose them to a new
perspective. The panelists then shared their knowledge and experiences in relation to their
expertise that would provide various ideas and inspirations for our own Research ideas.
The Activity, SEARCH 1.3 (Sharing of Experiences and Activities for Research Homing) was
held last September 26, 2019 at PSHS-BRC.
Enrichment Activities
The activity began with a warm message from our campus director Engr. Lorvi Pagorongon,
Ma’am Lorvi shared her experiences as a researcher and gave a warm and inspirational to us
students. Then proceeded to the introduction the panelists and speakers, experts from different
fields, some of them are even graduates of PSHS- BRC. This gave us more background on the
activity, and an idea on who the panelists are. We were then divided into our own clusters, I was
enrolled in the Materials Science cluster.
The Proposal Defense of the Grade 11 students took place at the lobby of the Science and
Technology Building. After the very knowledgeable Proposal Defense, we all took our lunch
break then our cluster, together with the Chemistry cluster, moved to the Seminar Hall at the
Administration Building to listen to our speakers parting their knowledge and experiences in
their line of work to give us an idea of what happens next and even a new perspective for
research ideas.
Learning Insights
During the Proposal Defense, I was exposed to plenty of possible research topics and an idea on
its methodology. The Proposal Defense was very knowledgeable and will surely help me with in
generating my own Research topic.

The activity gave me an idea of the flow and of the factors that I must take note of by the time
that I work on my own Research Topic, especially the Proposal Defense, which provided so
much insight and a larger possibility of what we can do with our unutilized wastes.
I saw how critical the panelists were in the details of the research’s methodology and the
processes, which honestly, made me a little nervous for I know that one day, I will be the one
defending my Research Proposal in front of similar panelists. The constructive criticisms of the
panelists proved that the research proposals of some of the Grade 11 students could be more than
what it is and can be improved by so much. The essential thing I learned from the activity is that
for a research proposal to be effective the methodology must be reviewed thoroughly, we must
proceed with caution and avoid any errors that could mess up the whole process.
I was glad that I was enrolled in my preferred cluster, because I always wanted to minimize the
waste and materials that we just throw away. The most important thing that I learned from the
activity is for our Research topic to be effective, we must be very observant as a citizen, to
identify the problems of the country, or of the world that we can provide a solution to, at the
same time analyzing all the types of unutilized wastes and its properties to provide a substitute
for the wasteful things we use.
