SCF Fine Arts Club February Additional information and Material Lists are posted on Groupworks for each course. Photo may not be the actual class project but, is a representation of the medium used in class. If you have questions, please contact us at festivalfinearts201@amail.com Perfect Pastel-Abstract Pai When: February 3, 10, 17, 24 Time: 9:00 AM — 12:00 PM Instructor: Nikki Miles Cost: $60 Level: All Levels Limit: 12 Pastels are the most vibrant and pure color of all of the media, Come join us as we learn weekly about Pastel Principles and Elements along with one-on-one studio help. The group is fun and supportive, and you will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. This month's focus lessons will be: Abstract Paintings 1. Painting Movements Develop in Response to Previous Movements 2. Six basic elements of Abstract Art: Line, Texture, Shape, Form, Color, and Value. 3. Types of abstract Art: Non-objective, Objective If you have already taken "Try Me Pastel, you will feel comfortable instantly. However, we LOVE all new learners even if you haven't taken that class! Lakes, Streams, and Waterfalls: Paint or Pastel When: February 3, 10, 17, 24 Time: 1:00 ~ 4:00 PM Instructor: Allen Reamer Cost: $60 Level: All Levels Limit: 12 In this class we will concentrate on producing paintings of lakes, streams and waterfalls. You may use oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and/or pastel. The images that we will work with will not be of Arizona, but will have dense vegetation with brushes, trees, grasses and rocks. You will learn specific techniques to paint the dense vegetation, rocks and water. We aim to produce one painting each week. Your painting may be any size you wish. Your painting ratio will be 3x 4. Relief Printmaking When: February 5 Time: 9:00 AM ~ 12:00 PM Instructor: Allen Reamer Cost: $35 Level: All Levels Limit: 12 When you produce a relief plate, you can repeatedly print it. In this workshop you will learn printmaking terms, tools, and materials. You will lear how to make two or more relief plates. You will also learn how to print your plates. You will have the opportunity to both produce and print these plates. You may bring a non-copyrighted picture as inspiration for your print plate. Drawing Faces When: February 6, 20, 27 & March 6 Time: 9:00 AM — 12:00 PM Instructor: George Palovich Cost: $65 Level: Beginner to Intermediate Limit: 12 This course could be taken by beginners in drawing though the beginning classes would be helpful. By way of diagrams and explanations of basic facial proportions, this course covers the drawing of the human face and head in full front, profile and three-quarter views. Sources for drawing in this, course are the mirror, the skull, manikin heads and sculptural busts. It is suggested that a volunteer guest be asked to sit for the final session but is not necessary. The students themselves will sit for each other if there is no volunteer to draw. As in all of these courses, expect to have homework assignments. Acrylic Painting with Maria When: February 6 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM Instructor: Maria Shiling Cost: $35 (materials included) Level: All Levels Acrylic Painting with Maria is a great experience for all levels of painters who want to try a follow-a- long style class using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Instructor will provide all materials. February's class will be a painting of a succulent. Intaglio Printmaking When: February 13 Time: 9:00 AM — 12:00 PM Instructor: Allen Reamer Cost: $35 When you produce an intaglio plate, you can repeatedly print it. In this workshop you will learn printmaking terms, tools, and materials. You will learn how to make one or more intaglio plates. You will also learn how to print your plate or plates. You will have the opportunity to both produce and print these plates. You may bring a non-copyrighted picture as inspiration for your print plate. Multimedia - Try Me Session When: February 20 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM Instructor: Festival Artists Have you thought you might like to try painting as a hobby, but don't know how to start or what to use? Come to this session offered by the SCF Fine Arts Club. You can try watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylic paints to find out which you might like (maybe you'll like all of them!) We'll have learning stations for each medium, including materials, ready for you to explore. Facilitators will be nearby for assistance. You can spend 30 minutes at each station to experiment, play, and get to know the medium. Maybe you'll create a 30-minute masterpiece! This session is offered to SCF residents who are not yet members of the Fine Arts Club. Perfect Pastel-Mini Workshop Abstract When: February 26 Time: 9:00 AM — 12:00 PM Instructor: Nikki Miles Cost: $35 Level: All Levels Limit: 12 This one-session, 3-hour class will focus on the same information as the month-long Perfect Pastel Class. The only difference is that there will not be one-on-one assistance as you work on an individual painting. This month's focus lessons will be: Abstract Paintings 1. Types of abstract Art: Non-objective, Objective Fun with Alcohol Ink Alcohol ink is a free flowing, highly pigmented medium creating beautiful abstracts and colorful art. With the multiple techniques taught in this class to control the ink, you will be able to paint images using a brush and other simple tools or enjoy the abstract forms the magical ink creates with your help. The instructor will provide all the materials, including two 4-inch tiles, two 6-inch tiles and continuous individual guidance. In addition, you will receive written information to help you work at home. Creating with alcohol ink is relaxing and peaceful and is an on-going learning experience. You will be proud of your work and will have the confidence to continue on your own. Please bring an apron and gloves if you so desire. Expressing Yourself Through Abstracts When: February 27 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM Instructor: Sheryl Sauer Medium: Acrylics Cost: $40 — (acrylic materials included) Level: All Levels Limit: 10 This 3-hour class will focus on the concepts of painting in abstract form, using acrylic paints, brushes and palette knives and incorporating mixed media. Answer questions like — how do | begin; when do | know when I'm finished; how relative is design and composition when painting abstract, and more. All supplies will be furnished with the exception of aprons, but participants may bring their own paints and mixed media items to incorporate in the painting.
