    ALH-901X FIRMWARE RELEASE NOTES

    Handheld Firmware v571


    Release Notes, Windows Mobile
    This firmware release is referred to as version “v571”. The following briefly describes the changes to the
    firmware for Alien ALH-9010/9011 handheld RFID readers, since the last firmware release.

    Important Upgrade Notice


    • Use a high-quality MicroSD card. Alien recommends SanDisk 2GB or 4GB cards.
    • Make sure there are no other files on the card other than the new image files.
    • Do not rely on battery power during the update! Dock the unit or plug directly into the provided
    DC power supply to prevent interruption of power during the critical phases of erasing and writing
    the new OS image.
    • After the update is complete: reset the unit as instructed, then re-enter the boot menu and select
    “Clean on Exit” (option 2), then Exit to run the new OS.

    New Features
    Support for SHA2 Encryption
    Support for SHA2 encryption is now possible, provided by the Microsoft Adaptation Kit Upgrade, AKU
    6.5.3.12.33.

    Device Name Now Includes Unique Device ID


    The device name (visible at Start > Settings > System > About) now includes the devices unique ID. For
    example, instead of simply being “AlienHH”, it now appears as “ALH-xxxxxxxx”, where the “xxxxxxxx” is
    replaced by the Device ID.

    OS Support for Revised Camera Module Hardware


    This version adds support for a newer camera module that will soon be built into new ALH-9011 units.
    Support for the previous camera module is still included. This change does not impact ALH-9010 units at
    all.

    Fixed Bugs & Miscellaneous


    Fixed Camera Preview Display Problem
    A bug that existed when switching between the color camera and 2D barcode scanner was found and
    fixed. The bug could cause distorted camera preview displays, error messages returned in the camera
    APIs, or outright crashing of the program.
