LAB LESSON - REPORTED SPEECH
When we want to report someone’s words, we look at the verb in the sentence,
and we go one tense back:
Direct Speech Reported Speech
Present Simple Past Simple

“I play tennis”, she said She said she played tennis
Present Continuous Past Continuous
“I am playing tennis”, she said She said she was playing tennis
Past Simple Past Perfect
“I played tennis”, she said She said she had played tennis
Past Continuous Past Perfect Continuous

“I have played tennis”, she said She said she had played tennis
Present Perfect Continuous Past Perfect Continuous
