Abstract
Murraqa-e-Dehli is a brief narrative of Mughal Capital in the rein of
Muhammad Shah (Rangeela). The author of this book, Nawab Dargah Quli Khan
belonged to a persian family who migrated to India in Shah Jahan's times. The family
was attached to the royal court in Iran and later in India. In 1724, Dargah Quli Khan
joined the services of Nawab Asaf Jah I (Autonomous Mughal Governor of Dekkan)
and became a part of the Mughal Government. Dargah Quli Khan was a part of retinue
of Nawab Asaf Jah I when he travelled to Delhi in 1738. They remained in Delhi for
four years. In Murraqa-e-Dehli, Dargah Quli Khan has penned short notes on the
places of historical importance in Delhi and the lives of prominent personalities, like
saints, poets, musicians, singers and dancers.
