The service bulletin provides information on modifying the No. 1 and No. 2 hydraulic systems on BD-700 aircraft by introducing an improved actuator as a separate line replaceable unit (LRU) with part number 975237-501.

The service bulletin introduces an improved actuator as a separate LRU to modify the No. 1 and No. 2 hydraulic firewall shut-off valves (HFSOV) on BD-700 aircraft.

A new HFSOV actuator assembly with Parker part number 975237-501 and Bombardier part number GX473-0126-1 is required. The old HFSOV actuator assembly with Bombardier part number GX473-0010-3 must be discarded.

1. PLANNING INFORMATION
NOTE: This Service Bulletin is currently being offered as part of the Reliability
Improvement Modification Program (RIMP). Bombardier recommends that
this modification/rework be incorporated at your next convenient downtime.
Due to limited parts, advance scheduling may be required. Bombardier
recommends contacting your In-Service Implementation Team (ISIT)
representative as soon as is practical to schedule your aircraft at the following
email address: RIMP_Global@aero.bombardier.com.

MODEL BD-700-1A10 (BD-700)
B. Reason
It was demonstrated from the service history, that the actuator from the Hydraulic
Firewall Shut-Off Valve (HFSOV) has a premature failure rate. The hydraulic
systems no. 1 and no. 2 each contain an HFSOV located in the aft equipment
bay. These valves are manually commanded closed, to stop the hydraulic fluid
flow to their respective Engines Driven Pump (EDP) in case of fire, or a high
hydraulic fluid temperature. Consequently, if the valve fails to close, the crew will
not be able to cut-off/isolate the hydraulic flow to the engines. Bombardier
Aerospace worked in conjunction with Parker to improve the actuator assembly,
which is part of the HFSOV assembly.
This Service Bulletin gives instructions to replace the actuator assembly from the
HFSOV, with a new and improved actuator. After the incorporation of this Service
Bulletin, the actuator assembly will have its own Part number, Bombardier Part
No. GX473-0126-1 (Parker Part No. 975237-501).and will be considered as a
stand alone Line Replaceable Unit (LRU).
The incorporation of this Service Bulletin, will greatly reduce maintenance time
and costs when an actuator has to be replaced since the hydraulic lines will no
longer need to be disconnected. The incorporation of this Service Bulletin will
improve dispatchability, reliability and prevent unscheduled removals and possibly
AOG situations.
C. Description
This Service Bulletin gives instructions to:
– Get access to both hydraulic firewall shut-off-valves.
– Reidentify the hydraulic firewall shut-off-valves.
– Remove and replace the actuator from the hydraulic firewall shut-off-valves.
– Do the necessary tests to make sure that the system operates correctly.
D. Compliance
Recommended – Reliability/Dispatchability/Cost Avoidance
E. Approval
The technical content of this Service Bulletin has been approved under
the authority of Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) Design Approval
Organization (DAO) No. DAO #93-Q-02.
NOTES: 1. The technical content of this Service Bulletin is accepted by the
FAA under the Canada/USA bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement.
2. The technical content of this Service Bulletin is accepted by the
JAA and by EASA in accordance with established procedures.
