    The Teaching of Listening and Reading

    Reflection on Demonstration Teaching

    Teachers are the role model of students. Teachers teach and guide students and
    students listen and follow everything they say. Teachers should have fashion and
    dedication to their job; they must be a good example to the students and to those
    people around them. Therefore, teachers have to live with norms and good practice
    inside and outside of school that can shape and mold during demonstration teaching.

    This October 29, 2019, my classmate named Ms. Arquiz Donna Mae conducted
    her Demonstration Teaching with the help of her group mates. I know that
    demonstrating teaching is not an easy task because it is a task that teachers and future
    teachers have to prepare and practice in advance but I can say that Ms. Arquiz did a
    very commendable job a beginner. It was evident from the beginning of the demo up to
    the end. She used instructional materials that are suited with her topic and the level of
    thinking of her students that’s why her students (group mates) can easily cope up to the
    flow of his demo-teaching. I also noticed her way of speaking and the way she calls and
    gives feedback to her students, she did not stutter and she did a god job in elaborating
    the answer and questions. That way of her teaching, she is so confident with his
    speaking and gestures and I can say that she almost grasped the momentum and spirit
    of being a good teacher in the future. Because of these, I learned that I must be
    confident enough in doing things like this and I should have come inside classroom
    prepared and ready holistically. On the other hand, about the lesson she chose which is
    about the love of mother elephants towards her son and vice versa, is very effective
    and interesting specially when the students are in high school level. Students’ interest
    will trigger, they can easily reflect themselves in the situation and this will result in an
    active engagement throughout discussion. Because of this, I also learned that preparing
    and doing demo-teaching, it should starts with appropriate way of choosing instructional
    materials and objectives that aligned with the chosen or given topic. Then, it should be
    followed by devising effective lesson plan and thinking effective teaching strategies in
    conduction the lesson plan that Ms. Arquiz followed and conducted successfully as a
    beginner.

    Everything is hard as a beginner but it does not mean that we have no room for
    improvement. It means that as a beginner, we have to do our best, prepare and have
    good practice because the day will come that us beginner will become professional.
    Just like us, future teachers, if we do our best even we are only beginners, it means that
    the time we became professional, we can teach and share knowledge to our students
    and be leader in our community and a role model in people around us.

    This November 05, 2019, I was an observer of Ms. Fenol Roselle Demonstration
    Teaching together with her group mates acted us her students. She came in room well-
    groomed and seems ready for her job but there is slight mark of nervousness in her
    face. As usual, she started with greetings then followed her lesson 6A’s lesson plan. At
    the beginning of her demonstration teaching, there are pauses in her speaking but I can
    say that this is normal because as a beginner, we will feel nervousness but at the same
    time excitement. These are evident with Ms. Fenol because as her demo-teaching
    going on, she started to gain the confidence and momentum that’s why in the middle
    and latter part, I as an observer noticed the changes in her way of speaking and
    delivering the lesson which is far different from the initial part of her demo-teaching. On
    the other hand, she used attractive instructional materials but it is bit unorganized in the
    part when it was posted in the white board but she still managed to enrich and elaborate
    the discussion despite all those small mistakes. This time, I learned that losing
    confidence is not an option in doing things like this, I should trust to myself and makes
    practices that can boost my confidence. Furthermore, I also learned that making
    mistakes is a part of us especially future teachers because those mistakes will serve as
    lesson that will push us that we can do better than this time.

    Making mistakes does not mean that we, future teachers are not good in our
    chosen field but it only teaches us that in every mistakes, there are lessons behind that
    we have to analyze and evaluate in order to complete our self and can serve better in
    our schools and society. I can say that Ms. Fenol is an example of this, even she had a
    hard time in the initial part of her demo-teaching, she keeps believing in herself that she
    can do better and finish it successfully.

    This November 07, 2019, I was an observer of Ms. Catalan Babelyn


    Demonstration Teaching together with her group mates acted us her students. Before
    that day, there was an announcement that there will be a power interruption which
    Bucana, Nasugbu will be included that’s why I am so amazed with Ms. Catalan group
    because they were ready that day. They prepared instructional materials that can be
    used even there is no power supply; this showed their resourcefulness and being
    proactive. Back to the day of demonstration, Ms. Catalan came inside room well-
    groomed and seems ready for her task. As usual, the demonstration started with
    greetings and prayer then, she followed her prepared lesson plan. Based on my
    observation, I can say that I like the way she speaks in front of class, her way of
    addressing the questions of students and elaborating the lesson proper. In addition, my
    favorite part of her demonstration is giving the students an activity, which is debate. This
    can develop the communicative competence of her students because they performed
    an actual debate with the use of target language. She considered all of the factors that
    should e included in her demonstration teaching, all of her conducted activities are
    aligned with her objectives. Overall, she produced a conducive environment, it is
    evident because all of her students became an active participant and can cope up with
    the flow of the whole discussion from beginning up to ending.

    After this demonstration teaching conducted by Ms. Catalan, I realized that being
    approachable is very important in teachers life. The teacher should create an
    environment which students are comfortable enough to ask and answer questions about
    lesson proper. Teachers should also create an image to the mind of their students, an
    image that can persuade students to participate teaching-learning process inside
    classroom. Overall, I am impressed that Ms. Catalan finished her task successfully and
    seems ready for her teacher life in future.
