Why do I hate Facebook?
1- I have so far resisted the call to sign up with Facebook. At first I didn't create a
profile out of laziness. Everybody told me "You should log in, it's amazing how many
people you can meet there" so I started thinking on it and suddenly I realized that
Facebook culture has a dark side which not many people consider when they register.
2- I suppose one of my personal reasons for hating Facebook is the invasion of

privacy it involves. You don't have to display personal details and photos if you don't
want to, but most of the people decide to do so, so everybody can watch them. You
must be careful, as you don't know who's watching them. Employers, teachers and the
police are now using the site to get information about you. Oxford University
officials, for example, use Facebook to catch students who break the university rules.
3- Besides, I think that Facebook may only be a symptom of wider problems in

modern society, since it can too often be used for anti-social behavior, and seems to
make these problems greater. Fraudsters, bullies and other unpleasant characters hove
always existed, but Facebook seems to give them a new 'space' which is hard to
control. Maybe you think I am a spoilsport, but I hope you will at least consider the
unpleasant side to Facebook before you log on.
