Landmarks of Punjab
Punjab is famous for many landmarks, most of them in Lahore, Pakistan. They are
many vast landmarks build and architecture to grab the attention of tourists and
locals. One reasons for its famous history is due to the fact that most of the
landmarks are really ancient and were made during the time of the Mughals, and
Mughal Architecture id really famous.
Minar e Pakistan
Who could go to Lahore and not see the beautiful 62 metres tall, white tower
standing in Iqbal Park. The park was the place where the
Pakistani Resolution was made, and it was built as a
symbol of the unity of Pakistan. Built between the years
1960-68 by Nasreddin Murat Khan, the tower holds a lot of
significance. On it as carved the 99 names of Allah, which is
a sign of Islam being really common in the nation. It stands
near another landmark, which is the Badshahi Mosque.
Badshahi Mosque
Built near Iqbal Park in Lahore, the Badshahi Mosque is the second largest
mosque in Pakistan and among the top ten in the world. It was built during the
time of Aurungzeb in 1671, a Mughal emperor and the famous architecture is also
Mughal. It used to be the place where the emperors lived, but now is neutral. It is
on the west of the Lahore fort and on the outskirts of the walled city of Lahore.
After the fall of the Mughal Empire, it was
taken by the Sikhs followed by the British,
but now is one of the most iconic places
in the whole of Pakistan.
Lahore Fort
The Lahore Fort is a citadel in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. The fortress is located
at the northern end of walled city Lahore, and spreads over an area greater than
20 hectares. It contains 21 monuments, some of which date to the era of
Emperor Akbar. The Lahore Fort is notable for having been almost entirely rebuilt
in the 17th century, when the Mughal Empire was at the height of its power. After
the demise of the Mughal Empire, it has been
said to have been the home of Ranjit Singh,
The Sikh head during the Sikh expansion. Some
of the monuments inside of the large boundary
walls are Lal Burj and Kala Burj, Sheesh Mahal,
The khwabgah of Jahangir (his sleeping area)
and Diwan e Aam and Khaas, etc.
