TAPE SCRIPT TRY OUT 1
I. LISTENING SECTION
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand
spoken English. There are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.
Part I. Pictures
Questions 1 to 3
Direction :
For each item, there is a picture in your test book, and four short statements about it on the
tape. These statements will be spoken twice, but are not written out in your test book, so
you must listen carefully. You must choose one statement - (A), (B), (C), or (D) - that best
describes the picture. Then, on your answer sheet, mark your choice.
Example :
Look at the picture and listen to the four sentences! Now, listen to the following
statements.
A. The girls are eating cakes in the dining room.

B. The girls are buying cakes with her friends
C. The girls are making cakes in the kitchen
D. The girls are sharing cakes to her friends.
Choice (C) - The girls are making cakes in the kitchen - best describes what is seen in the
picture. Therefore, you should mark (C) on your answer sheet.

Part II. Questions and Responses
Questions 4 to 7
Direction :
In this part of the test, you will hear several questions spoken in English, followed by
four responses, also spoken in English. The questions and responses will be spoken
twice. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to
understand what the speakers say. You have to choose the best response to each question.
Now listen to a sample question :
You will hear : Man : How about sushi for lunch ?
You will also hear : Woman: A. I don’t think you’d come
B. I haven’t got my lunch yet
C. That sounds like a good idea
D. I can’t say anything about it
Choice (C) - "That sounds like a good idea" - is the appropriate to the question "How
about sushi for lunch ?" therefore you should mark (C) on your answer sheet.
4. Woman : What do you think of the movie last night ?

Man : ….
A. I find it extremely doubt
B. I just moved here last night
C. Lets go to the 9.30 show
D. That sounds good
Woman : Mark your answer on your answer sheet !
5. Woman : Hello Adi, I’d like you to meet my cousin, Vina.
Man : ….
A. Hi, how are you ?
B. It’s okay. I’m fine
C. With pleasure
D. Hello, Vina. How do you do ?
6. Woman : Could you tell me, where is the headmaster room ?
Man : ….
A. No, it makes me busy
B. I don’t think he came already

7. Woman : Would you like some candies ?

Part III. Short Conversations
Questions 8 to 11
Direction :
In this part of the test, you will hear several short conversations. You will hear the
conversations twice. The conversations will not be printed in your test book, so you
must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say. In your test book, you will
read a question about each conversation. The question will be followed by four answers.
You have to choose the best answer for each question and mark it on your answer sheet.
Now, listen to a sample question :

You will hear :
Woman : Good morning. May I know where the restaurant in this hotel, Sir?
Man : Sure. It is on the second floor, Mam.
Woman : Thank you, Sir.
Man : You are welcome, Mam.
You will read : Where does the dialogue probably take place ?
A. At the hotel
B. At street
C. At home
D. At restaurant
Choice (A) – “At the hotel" - is the best answer to the question, " Where does the
dialogue probably take place ?" Therefore you should mark (A) on your answer sheet.
Now, let’s begin with the question number 8
8. Man : Look ! Your Persian cat is bitting its kitten.
Woman : No, she isn’t. She’s carrying her kittens to move them out.
Man : Really ? How strange that is.
Woman : Now, read question number 8 and answer it.
9. Man : I would like to make a hotel reservation, twin room please.
Woman : It’s okay, Sir. How long will you be staying for ?
Man : I need the twin room for two nights.
Woman : We have booked the room for you, Sir. Please arrive before 4 p.m.
on your check in.
Man : Now, read question number 9 and answer it.
10. Man : Good morning. May I speak to Mr. Hendra ?
Woman : Good morning. Who’s speaking ?
Man : I’m Mr. Andre, his friend.
Woman : I’m sorry, Sir. He has gone out. I don’t know what time he will be
back at the office.
Man : It’s okay. I will call back later.
11. Man : Hi, Zara. How was your holiday to Bali ?
Woman : It was so fantastic. I visited so many object spots there. I visited
Pandawa Beach, GWK, Kuta Beach, Tanah Lot, and other interesting
places there.
Man : Wow, it’s so amazing, Zara.

Part IV, Short Monologs
Questions 12 to 15
Direction :
In this part of the test you will hear several short monologs. Each will be spoken two
times. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to
understand and remember what is said.
In your test book, you will read two or more questions about each short monologue. Each
question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each
question and mark it on your answer sheet
Questions number 12 to 13 refer to the following monolog.

Woman : To pass the examination succesfully, you should follow these steps. Firstly,
you have to prepare your material. Secondly, read all the lessons and don’t
forget to ask your teacher when you do not understand. The last, review your
lessons so that your exam will be satisfying
12. Now, read question number 12 in your test book and answer it!
Questions number 14 to 15 refer to the following monolog.

Man : Good morning. There will be a holiday camp next month. All scouts must
join this camp. The activity will take place at Bantir camping site and last
for three days. For further information, please contact Mr. Andi.
