INTRODUCTION:

WHAT IS RESORT

Resort is a place which people frequently or generally go for relaxation or pleasure, especially
one providing rest and recreation facilities for vacationers.

Resorts are places that provide relaxation and recreation over and above the accommodation,
meals and other basic amenities. A resort combines a hotel and a variety of recreations; it serves
food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, relaxation such as spa and shopping.

The purpose of staying in a resort is entirely different; people who want to spend their vacation
or holidays with their family in a particular city or a particular country are likely to stay in a
holiday resort. Holiday resort is a self-contained resort that attempts to provide most of its
clients wants while providing them entertainment, sports, relaxation and shopping and tour
arrangements; some even facilitate with shopping and tour guides. People prefer to stay for a
long period of time in resorts. Resorts are located in the midst of natural and picturesque
surroundings.

There are numerous form of resorts like-

 Desert resort is a resort located on the desert, attracts the tourist with their desert safari,
camel rides, camping, tradition dance and fair.

 Seaside resort (or beach resort) is a resort located on the coast. Its main attraction is
the beach. Island resorts are resorts located on an island. Many of these resorts have
activities that include sunbathing, swimming, fishing, boating, snorkeling, kayaking,
scuba diving, para-sailing, and other types of water sports.

 Mountain resorts are resorts located on or at the base of a mountain, attracting tourists
with facilities for skiing, mountain trekking, sightseeing and more.

ABOUT THE CITY:

Jaisalmer nicknamed "The Golden city", is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, located 575
kilometers (357 mi) west of the state capital Jaipur.

JAISALMER

The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, and is crowned by the ancient Jaisalmer
Fort.

The town lies in the heart of the Thar Desert (the Great Indian Desert) and has a population,
including the residents of the fort, of about 78,000. It is the administrative headquarters of
Jaisalmer District. Jaisalmer was once the capital of Jaisalmer State.

CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY:

o Jaisalmer, being an arid desert region,


o The temperature varies greatly from day to night in both summer and winter.
o The maximum summer temperature is around 49 °C (120 °F) while the minimum is 25
°C (77 °F).
o The maximum winter temperature is usually around 23.6 °C (74.5 °F) and the minimum
is 5 °C (41 °F). The average rainfall is 209.5 millimeters (8.25 in).
o Highest ever recorded temperature was 50.0 °C (122.0 °F). the lowest ever recorded
temperature being −5.9 °C (21.4 °F).

APPROACH TO THE SITE:

 Jaisalmer is connected to the rest of Rajasthan by buses provided by Rajasthan State


Transport Corporation as well as other private bus operators

 Jaisalmer Airport is located 17 kilometres southeast of Jaisalmer. Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur,


Ahmedabad, Surat and Jodhpur.

 Jaisalmer railway station runs daily trains between Jaisalmer and Jaipur, through which it
is connected to Delhi and other cities all over India. This station comes under NWR zone
and JU division.

 Additionally, there exists a luxury tourist train known as Palace on Wheels, which covers
the major tourist destinations of Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer.

AIM:

 To provide intervention in terms of Material, Design Philosophy, Planning and


Execution as the site is located in a desert and hot climate in day as well as cold in night,
preserving its traditional value and its historical importance of the site with their green
and sustainable architecture value.

OBJECTIVES:

 To design a site responsive resort without harming any geological and historical features
of the site.

 To provide an outlet to study the local architecture, local vocabulary, keeping in mind of
the climate factor, behavioral pattern and the user attitude.

 To provide the all types comfort to various people visiting there i.e. the local people and
the tourists.

 To create vistas and the buffer spaces so that the interest of the visitors are kept alive.

 To create climatic and energy responsive through the sustainable design.

 To promote the tourism potential of the desert.

 To identify the new techniques for construction and the sustainability of the project.
