Programme During the Bachelor’s study programme the students acquire knowledge
description and skills within the field of the English language, intercultural
communication, as well as the literature, history and culture of the
English-speaking countries. All core courses are taught in English.
Students in the 3rd year choose their specialization in one of the
following areas: British Literature and Culture, English Drama and Film,
American Literature and Culture, Communication Theory and Practice,
Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis, and Applied Linguistics, including
Translation and FL Teaching Methodology.

The syllabus includes a compulsory module of Practical English, consisting


of integrated skills, phonetics and grammar. Courses in linguistics provide
the students with knowledge and skills necessary for their future
professional careers as teachers of English, translators or interpreters,
media workers and academics. The general courses, including
Introduction to Linguistics, Descriptive Grammar (Phonology and Syntax),
Polish-English Contrastive Grammar, History of the English Language, and
Psycholinguistics are obligatory for all the students. Students who decide
to specialize in linguistics follow orientation seminars (2nd year),
Bachelor’s seminars, specialization seminars and a monograph lecture
(3rd year). General courses in English Literature and Civilization cover
British history, culture and literature, offering a broad overview of British
poetry, drama and prose from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day.
Similarly, general courses in American Literature and Civilization
familiarize the students with American culture, history and literature. The
courses are compulsory for all the students. Additionally, the students
wishing to specialize in these areas choose orientation seminars in the
2nd year and the specialization module in the 3rd year.

Tuition The studies are free of charge for Polish and the EU/EFTA citizens.
The charge of 2000 EUR/year applies for students from outside the
EU/EFTA, exclusive of an additional 200 EUR charge that covers
registration fee. For students of Polish origin the tuition is reduced by
30%.

Requirements A high school diploma, a transcript of records with the subjects/grades
and a certificate of proficiency in English for foreigners (unless the
secondary education was taught in English) are required. Basic command
of the Polish language (B1 level) is also necessary.
