It is the aim of any educational institution all over the world to produce students equipped with

academic competence. This aim is realized in complementing academic activities with teaching

strategies to achieve competence in academic performance. 21st-century teachers continuously

strive to improve their instructional practices to enhance student learning. Complementing the

aims of teachers, curriculum developers systematically attempt to identify research findings they

can incorporate in materials that will facilitate connections between teachers, the curriculum, and

students.

In educational research, there are some studies related to the descriptions of learning and

the existence of the learning process. Recently, in the national education sector, the use of

coordinated and coherent sequencing of lessons-learning cycles and instructional models-has

gained popularity in the education community. Educators are interested in how students learn

and gather several practical studies on teaching strategies had been carried out to investigate

factors affecting students’ academic performance. Teachers and School Administrators are

always in the front lines when their students’ academic performance decline.

To perform is to take a complex series of actions that integrate skills and knowledge to

produce a valuable result. In some instances, the performer is an individual. In other

performances, the performer is an individual; in other instances, the performer is a collection of

people who are collaborating, such as an academic department, research team, committee,

student team, or a university. Performance, as the adage goes, is a “journey, not a destination.”

The location in the journey is labeled as the level of performance. Each level characterizes the

effectiveness or quality of performance.

Performance, as the adage goes, is a “journey, not a destination.” The location in the

journey is labeled as the level of performance. Each level characterizes the effectiveness or
quality of performance. As an academic department improves its level of performance, the

members of the department are able to produce more effective student learning, more effective

research, and more effective culture.

Educational institutions are mandated to use education as a tool for social transformation.

The success of a school is measured by the quality of students it produces. The success of any

educational institution is measured by the performance of its students in both academic and non-

academic texts.

Teacher effectiveness has been the interest of policymakers, educators, and parents. The

effectiveness is measured by students’ academic performance in both internal and external

examinations. It is a general feeling that students who fail the examinations are taught by

ineffective teachers; on the other hand, those who excel are taught by the very effective teachers.

In addition to cultivating knowledge, skills, and attitudes teachers are expected to help

the students to identify and develop their potential. In the early stages of education, teachers are

charged with the responsibility to develop students’ primary skills necessary for advancement.

Teachers play a pivotal role in helping the students to direct their potential to achieve their

destiny. Learners need to be prepared for these challenges that lie ahead of them.

This is anchored in the idea that our world needs a generation of teachers who aim to

“develop learners instead of teaching them, who help their learners to become independent

(learning to learn), who provide students with motivation and interest for life-long learning and

urge them to become autonomous learners”(Bubblews, 2015).In addition to cultivating

knowledge, skills, and attitudes teachers are expected to help the students to identify and develop

their potential. In the early stages of education, teachers are charged with the responsibility to

This is supported by Yusuf (2017) when contending that the performance should not only

be based in terms of test and examination results and student ability to apply what is learned and

the rate at which students move on to higher institution of learning, but should include other

areas such as whether the students have acquired the survival skills.

As a teacher advances his levels of performance, he is able to produce deeper levels of

learning, improved levels of skill development, and more connection with the discipline for

larger classes while spending less time doing this. In order for an academic department to

improve its level of performance, the members of the department are able to produce more

effective student learning, more effective research, and more effective culture. As a teacher to

spending less time doing this. Most of the traditional teachers often rely solely on text, lecturing,

worksheets, and conventional tests. On the contrary, researches on teaching strategies conclude

that students have more interest in a topic when a variety of teaching methods are implemented.

According to the study conducted by (Byford et.al 2004) that Social Studies are vital for

the intellectual outlook of the present time, although there is a general tendency among the
people to be much less conscious of the value of the subject. Social Studies is just a course of

memorization; to pass the subject means memorizing a bulk of dates, events, personages, and

others. Many students do not realize that Social Studies is the medium to make an inquiry, to

investigate and understand society. As such, it is eventually the avenue to mirror oneself. With

the appropriate teaching strategy, Social Studies makes students realize the why’s and how’s of

the society they are in and eventually identify their real nature as a human being and as a race.

Teaching strategies are much imperative for students to appreciate their daily lessons or

activities. However, it is a reality that there are teachers who use only one teaching style day

after day, which denies students the opportunity of a variety of teaching techniques.

In the Philippine educational setting, there has been a dramatic change in which all leads

to being at par with the international standards. Innovations and initiatives have been made in

order to amplify the scheme that would qualify the criteria of the globally competitive learning

industry. This gives birth to the creation of the K to 12 programs of the Department of Education

which was implemented a couple of years ago. The K to 12 programs are deemed important in

the qualitative and quantitative development of individuals by adding another two years to basic

education.

According to former President Benigno S. Aquino III, “We need to add two years to our

basic education and those who can afford to pay up to fourteen years of schooling before

university”. He also asserted that children are getting into the best universities and the best jobs

after graduation, believing that after 12 years for public school, children will be given countless

chances at succeeding.” In line with this, He proclaimed the Republic Act no. 10533, also known

as The Enhanced Basic Education. The aspiration of Education for All 2015 and the Philippine K

to12 Basic Education Curriculum Framework which is to have the skills required in the 21st
century in order to cultivate a "functionally literate and developed Filipino." In reaching such a

goal, K to 12 Araling Panlipunan Curriculum will shape people with analytical, contemplative,

accountable, productive, sustainable, humane and nationalist with a national and global

perspective and appreciation of the historical and social issues.
