PERSONAL REACTION
The first group reports about the introduction to general ethics and ethical values of engineers
specifically civil engineers. The reporters gave the visual presentation properly. However,
some of the members need to speak loudly. The concept or the core is there and it is
informational. Overall it is okay.
The second group lectures about different classifications of services of civil engineers. This
includes investigations, consultations, design services, and construction services. The group
reports explained well the details of services and different duties of civil engineer. However,
they rely too much on reading the powerpoint presentation. Generally, it is informative.
Civil Engineering is not just a job or profession that you are only working but also there are
duties and responsibilities. These are laws, ethics, and moral standards that you must follow
as a civil engineer. The role of this field is very difficult that it can cost greatly once they
violated the standards. There are different organizations and laws that is related about the field
and how it is vital and important. These can develop and improve the mindset of an engineer.
In this field there are different disciplines. Because of that there are many services that can be
worked to. Most civil engineers serve as construction managers, consultants and teachers,
depending on their preference and interest. However, there are requirements and test that you
must meet to be selected. Every services and discipline is difficult, but it will broaden your
knowledge because this field is very large that there is more to learn on.
III. PROBLEM:
IV. OBJECTIVE:
To determine how Civil Engineers must take full responsibilities and duties.
To know the cause of neglecting Civil engineering laws, standards, and ethics.
To determine on how this profession will affect the society.
V. TIME CONTEXT
SEPTEMBER 2019 – Estimated 4 million construction workers are needed in
Philippines
AUGUST 2019 – Progress of Build Build Build Project by Duterte Administration
VI. VIEWPOINT
Lack of education coming from college years, wherein there in no proper information
and knowledge about how the duties of civil engineers is very important
High or expensive cost of materials that makes Civil engineers buy substandards or
low-quality products or materials
Lack of guidance from senior engineers or supervisors that will help them grow and
develop, thus not following the ethics and standards
There must be proper education about ethics, laws and standards for new Civil
Engineers, even in college to help them to be aware of the effects of neglection of
duties, such as seminars, and even in lectures.
Senior Engineers must always guide the new engineers even on the job training
students in their company to ensure their knowledge in the field
There must be a plans and strategies on how to buy good quality products and
materials without paying so much money.
X. RECOMMENDATION
Finally, I recommend for future civil engineers that they must take seriously the field
because the lives of people depend on it. If one does not follow the rules and standards of the
Civil Engineering Field, it can affect negatively the society and people. They must pick the
discipline of this broad field according to their preference to improve their skills and knowledge
therefore can help and share it to people who are studying Civil Engineering Program. As
future civil engineer, we must be professional either on jobs or in personal life. We must be
globally competitive and have a gut to be confident because we are helping the people and
nation as a whole.
XI. CONCLUSION
Therefore, I conclude that Civil engineering have different ethics, codes, laws and
standards that must be followed in order to be good example to others. It is a very difficult job
especially you have many big responsibilities and duties as an engineer that will make the lives
of people be easier and better. This essential and fundamental principle of a Civil Engineer will
make us better and develop over time.
