1. We have derived the nodal finite difference equations for the steady state heat transfer in
the class. Using the same approach (Energy Balance Method) formulate the nodal finite
difference for each case below:

2. Use Energy Balance Method and consider steady state heat transfer to obtain
the equations to solve the temperature at nodes 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11 and
assume the following boundary conditions also shown in below figure. Node 1-4
surface temperature T= 100⁰C, Node 8, 12, 16 surface temperature, T = 20⁰C,
Node 13-16 surface temperature T= 50⁰C, Node 5 and 9 Q= 5kW/m2 directly
heating the nodes. Assume Δx is 0.25m and Δx and Δy are equal. Conductivity,
k=20 W/m⁰C.
Note: You may solve the 6 unknowns using any computational tools, i.e Excel,
MATLAB, apps, etc.
