Running Symmetry metrics, improved compatibility between indoor and outdoor tracking
alongside a number of other fixes and performance improvements.

Thank you for your continued support!

The OpenField Team

PLEASE NOTE: This release contains a fix for the NGS importer issues
where in certain cases not all API data was being processed.

PLEASE NOTE: This latest version of OpenField removes support for

OpenField v2.2.1 Release Notes, September 2019

Key Features and Improvements
Primary features and improvements from OpenField 2.0 onwards are included in this release
and outlined below with more detail available in OpenField Cloud’s Online Help.

CATAPULT VECTOR SUPPORT

Vector is Catapult’s next-generation player tracking solution. This version of software includes
support for the following:
• Vector S7 devices in GPS, LPS and combined GPS+LPS modes
• Vector X7 & G7 devices
• Vector Dock
• Vector Receiver, supporting USB and Wi-Fi connectivity
• Vector Phone App, a smartphone (iOS and Android) application for real-time feedback
• Vector Live iPad App, an iPad for live athlete tracking without console

ASSISTED FIRMWARE UPGRADES

Firmware upgrades are now possible directly through OpenField, allowing you to upgrade
your devices for bug fixes and improvements without contacting Catapult support.

IMPROVED INDOOR-OUTDOOR POSITIONAL COMPATIBILITY

Improvements have been made to the consistency of metrics captured indoor (using LPS) and
outdoor (GPS) in particular to the treatment of velocity and acceleration efforts.

FULL-ACTIVITY ANNOTATION
It’s now possible to create an annotation spanning a full activity, making it easier to
simultaneously report on all athletes independent of periods they participated in.

ACTIVITY TYPES
Now when creating an activity, rather than choose a device you can choose from the activity
types available to you. For Vector clients this may be:
• GPS Activity – for outdoor GPS tracking
• ClearSky LPS Activity – for ClearSky tracking

OpenField v2.2.1 Release Notes, September 2019

• Inertial Activity – for tracking inertial data only without any positional information
• Dual Activity – for collecting GPS and LPS data in the same activity

DUAL ACTIVITY
Now users can track indoor (using LPS) and outdoor (using GPS) in the same activity. This initial
version allows users to view live data from either GPS or LPS tracking non-concurrently.

CONSOLE PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS

This release of OpenField Console includes a number of performance related improvements:
• Full-sync speed has been increased, meaning sync time is now reduced by 50 to 65%
• Activity loading via calendar selection is significantly faster
• Reloading an activity speed has been improved

VECTOR DEVICE SETTINGS

We have added new controls to the Device Management functionality for your Vector devices.
This will allow you to better control which features are being used and maximise your battery
life.
• Bluetooth Switch – turns on/off the Bluetooth connectivity on Vector S/X/G 7
• UWB Switch – turns on/off the live data connection to your receiver
• Integrated HR – turns on integrated heart rate for the Vector Elite garment

ACCELERATION (GEN2) SPEED REJECTION THRESHOLD

A threshold setting for the Gen2 Accelerations feature has been added to filter very low-
velocity data points, improving accuracy and reliability. Please see the Team section of
OpenField Cloud.

SUPPORT FOR SECOND SPECTRUM IMPORT VIA TRACAB

Second Spectrum data provided in a Tracab-like format is now able to be imported using the
existing Tracab importer. Only Second Spectrum files which have been generated after the
10th of August 2019 will be supported.

NEW METRICS
Running symmetry

A new metric (familiar to GPSports customers) has been created to report on straight-line
running symmetry.

Work rate intervals

A new metric (again, familiar to GPSports customers) has been added to report on work rate
intervals, in which an athlete has completed a certain distance (e.g. 100m) in a defined period
of time (e.g. 60s)

Maximum velocity [% Max]

A new metric has been added to report on maximum velocity as a percentage of the athlete’s
recorded maximum.

Maximum velocity for acceleration efforts (Gen2)

A new metric is available for users of Gen 2 Accelerations, displaying peak velocity of individual
acceleration efforts in tables.

Resolved Issues
RESOLVED IN 2.2.1
• NGS Importer - Data Discrepancy between OF and NGS Site. Fixed! [OC-181]

RESOLVED IN 2.2
• Improved stability of dual activities.
• In certain circumstances rotations are removed from an activity. Fixed! [OFC-4545]
• In certain circumstances import a CPF file did not work. Fixed! [OFC-4498]
• Certain NGS imports missing quarters and periods. Fixed! [OFC-4914]
• Acceleration Load/Density not calculating for LPS. Fixed! [OFC-4811]
• In certain circumstances live parameters would show as ‘0’. Fixed! [OFC-4731]
• Console Heatmaps would not load for new files in post. Fixed! [OFC-4718]
• In certain circumstances device settings would be reset. Fixed! [OFC-4393]
• Athletes allowed into AutoCreatedPeriod from non-owned Activity. Fixed! [OFC-4261]

General Usage Notes

SYNCHRONISATION AND BACKUP
Catapult recommends scheduling a Full Sync and Cloud Archive at the end of every day. This
will ensure that all sensor data is synced to the cloud for future post-processing and backup.
The more often you perform a full sync, the less time each consecutive sync will take.

Although when synchronised your OpenField Console data is stored within OpenField Cloud,
Catapult recommends regularly capturing a backup of your local computer’s files, in particular
your ‘Catapult Sports’ folder (by default located in your My Documents folder).

GRAPHICS CARD SETTINGS

Where possible, add an exception to your graphics card settings to always run OpenField using
your discrete graphics card instead of integrated graphics.
