10 Challenge

Guillermo Velasquez purchased 12 pounds of various foods including produce, meat, and grains for $10. A critique of a "$10 dollar challenge" video noted that while cheesy, it showed you can purchase a variety of healthy foods for $10 compared to only 3 pounds of junk food. The critique suggests making your own meals saves money long-term compared to ready-to-eat or junk foods. Other ways to compare food choices besides weight include comparing serving sizes/servings and food quantities/volumes.

What are 5 ways to maximize your food dollars?

1. Buy only what you will eat between going the store
2. Don’t buy prepacked foods, since they tend to be more expensive
3. Don’t eat out often, try making meals more at home to save money
4. Don’t shop when you’re hungry, you tend to overspend on an empty stomach
5. Take advantage of store sales to get more bang for your buck.

5 ways to combat spoilage

1. Keep frequently used items at the front
2. When you buy new food, make sure you put it behind your older food.  This keeps your
food waste low and your budget on track.
3. Keep meat uncut and wrapped until ready to eat.
4. Avoid washing fresh produce
5. Give leftovers a new meaning and not let it go to waste

Critique the $10 dollar challenge video

Overall I thought the video was pretty cheesy for my taste, but it did leave an important
message across. It showed that even on a low budget you are able to have a variety of healthy
options to have a nutritious meal. On top of that you got more dense food that if you were to
spend the same amount of money on junk food. In the video the person who bought junk food
bought roughly 3 pounds of food compared to the person who bought a variety of healthily
food they doubled their food density to six pounds. In the case when I did the $10 dollar
challenge I was able to buy 12 pounds of food that I can make a variety of dishes and or drinks
and even snacks if I wanted to. The main thing I got out of the video take the time and invest in
your health and by that I mean is make your own meals as much as you can because it tends to
save you money in the long run. Compared to buying ready to eat meals and or junk food they
tend to be a lot more expensive and of course more unhealthy for you raising the changes of
you having complications with your health if that is all the type of foods you eat consistently

2 other ways you could compare food choices besides using the weight of the items?

Compare serving size/servings and compare their quantity and volumes
