Tire Building Process in Sendai Plant Tire Inspection in Toyo Tire USA

1.Introduction
Toyo's reputation for high quality tires in the market place, is due to both the basic design
concept and the production process employed . In this TTT and some forthcoming issues,
we would like to explain the concept and design approaches behind Toyo's unique
production processes, which enables Toyo to maintain its excellent reputation for quality
products in the market place. In this issue we would like to explain the concepts involved
in the production process.

3. Basic Concepts of Production Process and its method

Basic Concepts
1) The constituent parts of a green tire should not be strained and remain low
stressed throughout each production process .
2)The Green tire should reach the Curing mold with symmetry and uniformity**

The relationship between "Strain , Stress" in the production process and market
quality
One of the main production processes is "Extrusion" . The main tire parts are extruded ,
forwarded and wound on to a roller or put on to plates for the next process in building a
tire. The production process of building a "Green tire" is that each component is applied
on to a drum ,and built up, each part adhering to the other . The tire parts (including steel
belts, various rubbers and ply cords) suffer a lot of strain during these processes. All these
materials have a general characteristic to shrink slowly after being strained and also to
remain stressed inside to some degree. This can lead to an imbalance or lack of uniformity
in dimensions or weight not only in the green tire but also in the finished cured tire.

increases the weight in the area.

In Toyo's plants , low tension systems have been established in every process. So, we can
produce tires with a good and stable uniformity (including balance ). This has been
brought about by a highly developed engineering technology, as well Toyo's own
preparatory tire design system "DSOC-2" is unique.
** It will be shown in future TTT's how "curing symmetry and uniform conditions" have an influence on
tire quality in the market place .
