KITCHEN TOOLS

A pastry brush, also known as a basting brush, is a cooking utensil used to

spread oil or glaze on food. Traditional pastry brushes are made with

natural bristles or a plastic or nylon fiber similar to a paint brush, while modern

kitchen brushes may have silicone bristles.

A can opener (also known as a tin opener) is a device used to

open metal cans.

A casserole, from the French for "saucepan”, is a large, deep dish used

both in the oven and as a serving vessel. The word casserole is also

used for the food cooked and served in such a vessel, with

the cookware itself called a casserole dish or casserole pan.

A cauldron or caldron is a large metal pot for cooking and/or boiling

over an open fire, with a large mouth and frequently with an arc-shaped

hanger.
A grater/shredder is a kitchen utensil used to grate foods into fine pieces..

A knife is any cutting edge or blade, hand held or otherwise,

with or without a handle. Originally made of rock, flint,

and obsidian; knives have evolved in construction as technology

has with blades being made

from bronze, copper, iron, steel, ceramics, andtitanium.

cutting board or chopping board is a durable board used to place material

on to be cut. Kitchen cutting boards are often made of wood or plastic.

There are also chopping boards made of glass, steel, marbleor corian,

which are easier to clean than wooden or plastic ones, but tend to damage knives.

A colander is a bowl-shaped kitchen utensil with holes in it

used for draining food such as pasta and rice. Conventionally,

colanders are made of a light metal, such as aluminium or thinly

rolled stainless steel, but some colanders are made of plastic or

silicon.
A frying pan, frypan, or skillet is a flat-bottomed pan used

for frying, searing, and browning foods.

A garlic press is a kitchen utensil to crush garlic cloves efficiently by

forcing them through a grid of small holes, usually with some type

of piston. Many garlic presses also have a device with a matching grid of

blunt pins to clean out the holes.

A barbecue grill is a device for cooking food by applying heat

directly from below. There are several varieties of such grills, with

most falling into one of two categories: gas-fueled and charcoal.

A ladle is a type of spoon used to scoop up and serve soup or other liquids.


A measuring cup is a kitchen utensil used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or bulk

solid cooking ingredients such as flour and sugar, especially for volumes from

about 50 mL (2 fl oz) upwards. The cup will usually have a scale marked in

cups and fractions of a cup, and often with fluid measure and weight of a

selection of dry foodstuffs. Measuring cups may be made of plastic, glass, or

metal

A measuring spoon is a spoon kitchen utensil used to measure an amount of

an ingredient, either liquid or dry, when cooking. Measuring spoons may be

made of plastic, metal, and other materials. They are available in many sizes,

including teaspoon and tablespoon.

A meat tenderizer is hand-powered tool used to tenderize slabs of meat in

preparation for cooking the meat. Generally, it looks like a hammer made of

metal or wood, with a short handle and large, sometimes hollow, typically

square head. It has rows of small pyramid spikes on the ends. Tenderizing

meat with the mallet softens the fibers making the meat easier to chew, and easier to digest. It is useful

when preparing particularly tough cuts of steak, and works well when broiling or frying the meat.
Mixing Bowl is a bowl used for mixing of ingredients.

A mortar and pestle is a tool used to crush, grind, and mix solid substances

(trituration). The pestle is a heavy bat-shaped object, the end of which is used

for crushing and grinding. The mortar is a bowl, typically made of hard wood,

marble, clay, or stone. The substance to be ground is placed in the mortar and

ground, crushed or mixed with the pestle.

A pizza cutter (or pizza wheel) is a utensil that is used to

cutpizzas. The use of a pizza cutter instead of a

standard knife avoids the dislodging of loose toppings

through the back-and-forth motion of the blade typical of a knife. Pizza cutters press their blade down

vertically instead.

A peeler is a metal blade attached to a wooden, metal or plastic handle that is

used to remove the outer skin or peel thus peeling certain vegetables,

frequently potatoes, and fruits such as apples,pears, et cetera.


A rolling pin is a cylindrical food preparation utensil used to shape

and flatten dough Roller types consists of a thick cylindrical roller

with small handles at each end; rod type rolling pins are usually

thin tapered batons.

A strainer is a type of sieve typically used to separate a solid from

a liquid. The word "sift" derives from sieve.

A spatula, also called an egg slice, a "turner," a flipper in Canadian

English, is a kitchen utensil with a long handle and a broad flat edge,

used for lifting and turning fried foods.

A spork or a foon is a hybrid form of cutlery taking the form of a spoon-like

shallow scoop with three or four forktines. They are used by fast food

restaurants, schools, prisons, the military, and backpackers.


A timer is a specialized type of clock. A timer can be used to control the

sequence of an event or process. Whereas astopwatch counts upwards from

zero for measuring elapsed time, a timer counts down from a specified time

interval, like an hourglass.

The toaster is typically a small electric kitchen appliance designed

to toast multiple types of bread products

Tongs are gripping and lifting tools, of which there are many

forms adapted to their specific use. The tongs are the most-

used cooking utensil when grilling, as they provide a way to

move, rotate and turn the food with delicate precision.

Eggbeater- A hand-held kitchen utensil with rotating blades for beating, whipping,

or mixing.
Dishware is the general term for the dishes used in serving and

eating food, including plates and bowls

Cutlery refers to any hand implement used in preparing and

serving food, is more usually known as silverware or flatware.

The major items of cutlery are the knife, fork and spoon. In recent

times, utensils have been made combining the functionality of

pairs of cutlery, including the spork (spoon / fork), spife (spoon /

knife), and knork (knife / fork) or the sporf which is all three.
