Reading
4 Read the text about Kate and the information about eight sports clubs below. Write the
paragraph heading (A–H) that describes the correct club to complete the gaps.

Kate enjoys playing ball games and wants to play in a team. She’s also been doing gymnastics for a few
years. So she may be interested in joining (1)     (2)     or (3)      . She doesn’t want to be in a
beginner’s class, so out of those three clubs (4)     wouldn’t be suitable. She does want to practise
every day, so the best club for her would be (5)      .

A Top Tennis is a new club for experienced players who want to improve their game. Our outdoor courts
are open every day from 7 am to 9 pm. Call us now to book your first lesson!
B The All Stars is a football club for girls aged 10–16. Our outdoor pitches are designed so that you can
play whatever the weather! Our teams meet for lessons three times a week, and we enter national
competitions.
C If you like swimming, then Splash! is the club for you. We have three large indoor pools and are open
from 8 am to 8 pm every day. Lessons for groups or individuals can be arranged.
D Jump! is a gymnastics club for those who already have some experience and who now want to train at
competition level. Many of our students have won prizes, with some becoming professional gymnasts.
Training available daily.
E Track Stars is a club that trains the athletes of tomorrow. Our indoor tracks are open all year, and our
coaches will help you become the best you can be. So whatever your distance, we have something for
you.
F The Giants is a new basketball club for people new to the sport – so if you’re just beginning, this is for
you! Lessons are held at Green Road Sports Centre. Come along and join our team!
G The Wheelers is a club for anyone who likes doing exercise and staying healthy. We meet every
Saturday and go cycling in the local countryside. Bring your own lunch. It’s a great way to meet new
friends, too.
H Sail Away is a windsurfing club located at Haversham Lake, and our experienced tutors will teach you
everything you need to know. We are open all year round, but classes for beginners start in April when
the water is a bit warmer!

5 The teenagers below (1–5) all want to join a sports club. Decide which of the eight sports clubs
(A–H) would be most suitable for each teenager.
