OVERVIEW FOR MILITARY AND LEGAL CONSIDERATION
THE DEMAND FOR "FAcruAL RECORD" ON HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR
Recent Califomiajudicial rulings challenge the Americanmilitary to justify their exclusion of homosexual
ci tizens from military service. While aU. S. District Court federal judge u phcld the Navy ban against homosexuals
in the annedservices, (The Washington Post, 12/ 11/91) Judge William Canby Jr . speaking for the U.S. 9th Circuit
Court of Appeals. was reponed as stating that tbe Army's policy of homosexual exclusion cannot be upheld "in
the absence of any supporting factual rccord" (The Los Angeles Times. 9/20/91).
Similar demands [or "scientific" data to justify homosexual exclusion continue to cite Dr. Alfred C.
Kinsey's purportedly reliable claims (Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, 1948) of a roughly 10% homosexll::l.l
population or "200,000 out of the 2 million merr.bers of the anned.forces" (as as proof of the "scientific
data" which would require an end to "discrimination" against homosexuals in the military. This attack on military
policy is echoed by similar c11allenges to existing civil laws which also exclude homosexuals from adoption,
marriage and other speciaJ privileges.
The attached "field study" of publicly preferred homosexual lifestyle beliefs and practices as evidenced
in THE ADVOCATE follows upon my recent book, Kinsev, Sex and Fraud: The Indoctrination of a People (co-
au thored wi th Edward W. Eichel) as a methodologically rigorous, scientific (research which can be replicated and
validated by independent study) answer to the not unreasonable demands in our era for evidence, for "factual
record" with which to determine public policy issues on homosexuality. As the largest circulation and longest
extant homosexual publication, THE ADVOCATE has carried interviews with congressmen as well as with
in tellectual, medical, entertainment and art luminaries (eg., see interviews with Congressman Garry S tudds in July
23. 1985, Larry Kramer, writer and director of television's "thirtysomething" in Apri123. 1991. aud July 16. 1991
interview wi:h writer, WilliamS. Burroughs), THE ADVOCATE has been cited in the mainline press as a credible
voice for the homosexual movemeut while major talk shows have cameod its representatives as legitimate
spokespeople for the homosexual community, ("Geraldo," 12/91).
Thus, while certainly some independent homosexuals may quietly have dislanced themselves from the
behaviors advanced in THE ADVOCATE, this periodical cannot be viewed as an unorthodox or fringe
publication of the homosexual movement, but rather as a unified voice of homo sexuality, "The National Gay and
Lesbian Magazine". Indeed. these same six core values and behaviors have beel) validated as bolding across all
of the key Slate homosexual publications. As such, the core values, the lifestyle openly displayed in TI::IE.
ADYOCATE must be seen as viable evidence which defines its readership and its overall constituency--
particularly due to its widespread visibility.

features of gay culture

io THE GA YELLOW PAGESand THE ADVOCA TE( confirmed as homosexual print
norms across a randomized sampJe of state homosexual periodicals) werc found to support the same set of core
values. This study content analyzed THE GAYELLOW PAGESand 56 randomly selected issues covering two
decades (July 5,1972 to July 16, 1991) of THE ADVOCATE. The latter analysis uncovered evidence identifying
roughly eighl corc "gay" ADVOCATEvalues. The following eight behavioral values have been promoted to boys
and men via roughly 446,000 sex ads (up to 2,000 each month) in Part "B" (a high-gloss, full color
independently paginated "PULLOUT" section) of the main ADVOCATE, july 5, 1972 to July 16, 1.991:
One: Part B Eyidence finds up to 58% of roughly 446,000 ADVOCATEsex ads are fOIWle
homosexual at-risk paid sex (prostitution).
Two: Part B Evidence Hods up to 38% of roughly 260,000 ADVOCATEprostitution ads involve male
youthlboy 'cues' while up to 20% of these ads specify teen!youthlboy sex.
Three: Part B Evidence finds up to 20% of 446,000 ADVOCA TEsex ads seek male homosexual (gay-
on-gay, intergay) violence (i .e., "hale crimes" such as Whipping, spanking, pounding, cutting, verbal
humiliation).
Four: Part B Evidence ftnds up to 99% of 446,000 ADVOCATE sex ads seek male AIDS-ellident sex
(e.g., condomless multiple, anonymous partnering, violent anal-to-oral sodomy, etc) via
' gayslmarriedlbilstraights' .
Five: Part B Evidence finds up to 99% of 446,000 ADVOCATEsexads seek "straight" appearing male
adult or teenJyouthJboy sex partners (i.e. "macho males" with frequent reference to large sex organ).
Six: Part B Eyidence finds from 97-100% of446,OOO AD VOCA TEsex ads are read as soliciting 'white-
only,' while black males may constitute up to 20% or more of the male homosexual population.
Seven: Part B Evidence fmds up to 72% of 446,000 ADVOCA TEsex. ads seek fair, Aryan-like, hairless
male beauty (even including nazi termsldresslbrutality) and a male homosexual bias against what
advertisers call "ferns," "fats" or other non-white, non-macho males .
.eight: Part B Eyidence finds 00/0 of 446,000 ADYOCA TE sex ads require "condom users only" -
- even post AIDS (up to .004% inexplicit "safe sex" solicitations have recently appeared).
Similarly, only . o o ~ / o small, commercial condom product ADS surfaced in Part B suggesting the
male homosexual COndQm-Don-use-oattern to be widespread and condoned.. Additional data
should be collected on this surprising and worrisome finding due to its potential medical, public policy
and legal (especially military) implications.
NOTE CHANGE: The 1992 ADVOCATE recently upackaged its CLASSIFIED
section as hard-core photographic and cartooned pornography. separate and
available "on request" with each issue. The December I, 1992 ADVOCATE includes
a full page pederast illustration of a black-eyed, three-year-old boy with his killen.
In keeping with a "boy-lover- theme. THE ADVOCATE anist inserted an adult-
sized, tumescent phallus. visible under the child's pants.

female conduct has been valued as normal. right and good, facts about what is normal, right and good in
homosema1 life have been Such a lack of knowledge seriously hinders public debate and decision
making about homosexuals in society.
In Gay and Lesbian Youth (1989) Dr. Gilben Herdt was concerned that boys recently:
shun older gays as role models or even as friends_. fear of AIDS contact has
seemingly alienated teenagers from younger and middle-aged adults (:4,32).
rOne boy told HerdtJ "r never wanted to be 'lJ1Y. Now, with AIDS, I have
even less reason" (:33). [Herdt felt teen resistance to homosexuality and
older gays requiredJ focusing upon gay youth. ... and the coming out proces.s
in teens (:4, 29).
Herdt's colleague Dr. Douglas Feldman admitted that AIDS will kill at least one iIi four_ ..
[gay t]eenagers [as theyjtend to be very susceptible to se:ru.ally transmined diseases" (:188). The scholars were
concerned that such (ears (of at least every founh "gar boy dying of AIDS). were discouraging youngsters from
experimenting with what might be their gay orientation.
To attract boys to homosexual life Herdt said. "gay culture began to institutionalize 'socialization'
techniques (or the transmission of its cullural knowledge to a younger generation- (:4). Gay culture Herdt
and other homosexual scholars firmly believe, merits legal protection from 'hate crirries.' which result, they feel,.
from ignorance about gays. The many DeW laws which bestow unique rights to AIDS carriers and
homosexuals suggested the need for an Objective analysis of precisely what kind of "gay cultural knowledge-
is being socialized to the boys that Herdt sees as "the younger generation. "
As the problem of child sex abuse overwhelms the nation, child protection has become a matter of
life and death. Laws which had prohibited homosexuals from working with children have been largely
abandoned based on a) the belief that homosexuals are roughly 10% of the population and thus normal b)
the notion that more heterosexual males abuse children than do homosexual males and c) the obvious
immorality of discrim.i.natmg against a harmless population.
PedenlSt Versus Pedophile VJdimintion Of Children
However, careful study has exposed the gay "10%" as a myth begun by Dr. Alfred Kinsey in Saual
Behavior in the Human Male (1948). The reader is referred to Kinsey, Sex and Fraud (Reisman and Eichel,
1990) (or extensive documentation proving Kinsey's data fraudulent - the actual percentage of gays is more
realistically estimated as between 1%-3%.3

While the massive enticement of boys into "gay" sex with men appears to be a pathology only of male
homose:ruals, the data do find worrisome trends among lesbians of sexually sadistic conduct rS&M-). It is not
impossible that furore studies may find woman-girl sex recruitment becoming common among lesbians.. To
date however, abuse of minors (both boys and girls) appears to remain largely a male pathology - for
pedophiles (generally men who abuse girls) and pedqasts (men who abuse boys).
Regarding child sa abuse., pro-gay literature generally cites child protection experts' data that 1 in
4 girls (25%) and 1 in 6 boys (16%) are sexua1Iy abused by age 18.

abused by straights than by "gays.- However in their FBI Report on "Ou1d Pornography and Sex Rings"
Lanning and Bw:gess (1984) cite the one in four" female estimate but say:
(t]he numbers for male victimi.z:ation are more hidden, perhaps because boys are reluctant to
admit to being victimjzed.. However, clinical data are increasingly suggesting that boys may
be at equal risk fbr se:ma.l yjdjrnjzation .since they are the ptekOllOO target of habitnal
pedophiles and Yiaims of child sa: rings. (: 10)
It is important to begin to distinguish between pedophiles (generally girl targets) and pederuSts (l'JOy
targets). For while not all homosexual or heterosexual males abuse children, a critical sub-population of each
targetS children. Funher on, this study examines the gay versus pederast issue based on the content of the
homosexual press. The following briefly addresses the data on numbers of victims for crimes of boy-man child
abuse (pederasts) versus crimes of girl-man child abuse (pedophiles).5 The wide discrepancy between the self
report of Abel's pederast population and Reisman's calculation from Gay population figures suggests thal the
pederast population is significantly more lethal and predatory than can be explained by population statistics
to sex abuse alone.

if -gays" are estimated at 2 (2%) of every 100 men, 98 gays abuse 784 boys (16%) for every 25 girls (25%)
abused by 98 -straights. - While these estimates appear impossible, Dr. Eugene Abel's clinical research suggests
they are too modest.

The book, For Money or Love (1976) by Robin Uoyd, confirms similar boy abusein "Boy Prostitution
in America" An identical boy abuse pattern is found by others (eg., Jay & Young. 1972; Janus, 1981; Rueda,

Before investing funds to advertise "X" in a magazine, marketers commonly study a publication's
'consumer data' to predict reader purchasing behavior. It has been found that use of a specialized publication
is a strong indicator of general acceptance of the values expressed in that publication. 13 This research effort
employed marketing research techniques to objectively measure the values to which homosexual males
adbere - to predict reader conduct.
Following preliminary studies and pilot testing at instruments, a content anal}'"5is was conducted on
THE ADVOCATE and on THE GAYELLOW PAGES. This analysis of the content of 19 years of
THE ADVOCATE (July 5, 1972 to July 2, 1991) 'WaS carried out by The Institute for Media Education,
Arlington, Virginja on randomly selected ADVOCATE magazines coded for 23

CDC guideline announcement for "Safer Sex" the July 16, 1991 issue induded a "fun pack" ad for a man or
"girl" with an "active" lifestyle - 2 condoms, 2 lubricants, aspirins, 2 "towellets" and say ediblCi. This man or
"gi.rlw ad was not just for "condoms" and appeared to be direaed at bise:rua.l consumers.
One small ad amongst roughly 115 sex ads on page 36 said: CONDOMS Brand names. Free details.
Planning America [address]. No minors." This strange announcement was listed under
to the left, under the heading Attczltion!, THE .ADV0C4TE remonstrated on an issue they did see as
important:

foreign countries for......sexual images of The United States customs
authorities may ... file criminal charges against individuals receiving them.

which sold "Videos, Leather, Lubes, Condoms, Toys" (:36-37). Another obscure "condom" mention appeared

reporter said the ",AIDS- poster was "Way too Hot For Oty Streets" (:80), our preliminary data finds such
condom ads are created for straights" but are "way too bot" for the homosexual press itSelf. Based on
preliminary findings, this study tested seven hypotheses regarding gay cultural views expressed in
THE ADVOCATE.

II. BACKGROUND
Due to the growing political power of homosexual ("gay") advocacy groups, the present study tested these:
six hypotheses. Mass media attention has focused on gay claims of "hate crimes" (discrimination or injury by
"anti-gays"). IS Recently contested federal reports, such as a Health and Human Services (HHS) study, claim
anti-gay views by churches and parents facilitate youthful suicide by suggesting homosexuality is abnormal

m. DEMOGRAPHICS &: PSYCHOGRAPHICS
There are two forms of marketing measurements long recognized >as critical tools of the advertising
industry: demographics (basic information about the public's gender, age, race, religion, location, reading,
buying and viewing habits, etc) and (basic information about the public's values and mores,
emotional and ethical conduct, etc.).
The bulk of this content analysis, in fact, establishes the psychographic profile of ADVOCATE
readers, and, by eXtension. of the larger "gay' community.
Just as ADVERTISING AGE serves as a mainsueam voice for the Ad industry, or THE CLEVELAND
JEWISH NEWS serves as the mainstream voice for Cleveland's Jewish Community, or THE DAILY WORKER
for the Communist community, THE ADVOCATE, THE NATIONAL GAY AND LESBIAN
NEWSMAGAZINE, serves as the mainstream voice for male (and recently female) homosexuals and
THE GAYELLOW PAGES serves as the business arm of that population. The racial composition of this
media group is unknown, but THE ADVOCATE largely serves White, Homosexual, Affluent, Single Males.
THE STANDARD PERIODICAL DIRECTORY, Uth Edition (1991) reported a circulation of 70,CXXl
for THE ADVOCATE (35,CXXI subscription and 35,000 nev.'SStand 'Sales, :735) representing a very small
population. At roughly 250 million Americans and about 175,000 million adults and 85 million men, this
readership accounts for .08 or less than 1 % Of the adult male population.
Simmons Markel Research Data
Another view of the readership finds none of the 150 major American magazines (Simmons Markel
Research, 1984) listing under 70,CXXI adult readers. As noted in the TIME article on OUIWEEJC, homosexual
males are largely an upsca!e population. Advertisements for expensive homes, clubs, tours and resorts support

on the bargaining jXlwer of ADVOCATE readers. is largely sUpjXlned
by studying the growing body of homosexual writings and public policy decisions. For o::ample, while many
conservatives argue that failure to require AIDS parmer tracing is a glaring c:iLmple of gay bias, some
feminists have jXlinted to gay male misogyny in the failure to compel a rapist to be tested for AIDS.
IV. ADVOCATE "PUlLOUT'" CLASSIFIED! -rRADER DICKS"
Current ADVOCATEs carry two sections. Section A is roughly 90 pages of public policy, art,
emenainment, health and political copy. A few mildly acceptable sex "relationship' ads are included in Section
A which nongays would think were the only "sex' advertising. The publisher explained:
We divide advenising into "sexually oriented" and "Don-sexually oriented." The former
appears in [he main book while Trader Dick is a shopping center for more sexually
oriented advenising. We do not knowingly permit advertisements of.. .. material
involvihg peC'3Ons too young to know what they are doing or who have been coerced
into appearing in erotic materia1...(nor] things we have reason to belIeve are medically
harmful." (May 4, 1997: 5).
A & B: Uniqne Sex Structure Of THE ADVOCATE
In order to examine the promotion of AlDS-efficienl sex, a study of THE ADVOCATE finds what has
been called a 'schizoid' division in the press. Part A recommends -safe sex only" and pan B, instigates
anonymous, anal-oral sodomy and violent anal abuse to its consumers.
The "A" section - that which is generally seen by nongays.- bas urged readers since about 1m to
reduce gay promiscuity and in the 80s "safe sex" began to find A s.ection support.ln "A', April 21, 1976 THE
ADVOCATE presented a major article on J,lenereal disease. Publisher, D.B. Goodstein wrote:
In sex, as in eating or drinking, each of us must take personal responsibility for our
health .... (Although] the neglect of public health officials and medical professionals

unprotected anal sodomy prevails - odm:ittLzl by roughly 40% of gay males and 66% of teen "gays" (:4). In 6
June 1991, 1"Iu Washington Tuna reported that two other studies admitted "up to 42 percent of young
homosexual men were found to engage in unprotected anal intercourse." Where do young boys ga AIDS?
The virus was found in 14.3 percent of 17-to-19 year olds-It was highest in the
youngest age group - the opposite of what we expected..... The trend is of

circulation. With such a small population it is inevitable that ADVOCATE profits would largely derive from
whar unires this population - sex sales. This includes adult aDd boy prostitution and pornography sales. Many
gay activists bad written of the mafia control of their (especially see Jay and Young, 1978 and Hunter,
1972). JUSt prior to its recent collapse OUTWEEK warned:
the lesbian and gay press is heavily dependent on revenues from phone-sex [aural
prostitution] advenising .... OUTWEEK last year found that in the absence of phone-so:
many of the community's newspapers and magazines would simply go out
of business. (April 10, 1991: 26).
Therefore, Section A is now roughly 10-15 pages larger than Section B, the latter carrying between
1,000 and 1,.500 sex ads per issue. SectiOD B is the one which, OUTWEEK says, allows mE ADVOCATE to
continue publishing. .
Section B is a high color booklet between 7276 pages. In 1972 these sex ads occupied about 3 pages
of a 32 page press. By 1975 the section was a "pullout- for easier storage, reference and seclusion. Now it is
stapled in two places for fast removal from the A magazine envelop. The pullout section is the "heart" of the
magazine, both economically and sexually. Originally given a double-meaning tille, --rRADER DICKS" the
booklet is now called only -A PULLOUf SECIlON: nIB ADYOCAlE CLASSIFIEDS.-
In Section B THE ADVOCATE instigates prostitution deals via "ModelslMasseurs. Even in AIDS
1991, roughly 900 ads in one issue are for prostitution, with 525 of these for organized prostitutes (54% of
all sexually oriented ads). In addition to the over 500 professionals selling Illegal sex and violeDce, on average,
roughly 400 "informal- prostitutes offer anal-oral, and other sex services in the "PERSONALS section of THE

groundwork for the present investigation and instrument development. To determine

beyond the "GayeUow Pages., a random selection of two homosaual popular, high-gloss, male
homosexual magazines (OutwuJe iutd Frontiers) were reviewed for the prevalence of similar or different
cultural values and mores.
Among the homose:rual press: Outlin.es (Chicago), TM Washington Blatk (Washington, DC). Gay
Comnumiry News, Boston, Mass.., The Wu-consin Light, Milwaukee, WI, Bay Windows (New England)
and The Lavender Nawork, OR were examined for similarities and differences from THE ADVOCATE.

ADVOCATE data reveals an awareness that youth are a) vulnerable b) easily prone to venereal disease
and c) generally used as the receiver of anal penetration. Despite this knowledge and tfust even in, 1972 anal
gonorrhea was known to be "now rampant' in the gay population, afflicting at least one in ten men, Dr. RG
reassured. ADVOCATE consumers that anal sOOomy was harmless. Dr. RG told ADVOCATE reat1.us that:
fistfucking is dangerous. I just saw a boy yesterday who had let someone [. words for brutal anal
sOOomy] and today he is in the hospital. It's going to take six months to repair the damage. I'm
sorry, the guy who did that is a criminal" (:6).
Dr. RG did not express alarm that an adult was having se:xwith a boy nor that the man was using the
boy anally. Dr. RGs public objection was that the man raped the child rectally withhis fist. causing obvious
damage to the anus. THE ADVOCATE ADVISOR, its ads for child prostitution and pornography and its
Penetrable Boy etc., establish its moral view of adult sex as proper with boys.
Until recent years when fear of aTTest led the magazine to employ the 18+ symbol, THE ADVOCATE
was a knowing participant in prostituting ch..ildren. As ads for children have slowed in THEADVOCATE, gay-
on-gay-bashing S&M ads appear to have increased dramatically. Such trend data will be available in the final

Homosexual prostitution is recognized as an efficient technique to transmit AIDS - especially to boy
prostitutes penetrated without condoms. As ADVOCATE "Classified" ads sell sex while
they also promote homosexual bath houses, resorts, and the like. They promote anonymous, multiple
partner, anai-oral sodomy and condomless AIDS.
For an extra fee, THE ADVOCATE offers a series of logos to its advertisers which will attract readers.
These images are unique to the "gay" press. A body in a harness, tied, strapped, signals sadism (S&M). An ad
with a behind and a gage above reading "9" tells you at a glance that one can get "liot" anal sodomy here not
possible using "safe sex" condoms. An erect penis means the seller wants "active" sodomites, versus a horizontal
peniS announcing a "passive" sodomite. Toes beneath a scale warns that this person is fat and scissors show
if the man is "cut" or (circumcised or not), etc.
The logos instigate AIDS-efficient "hot" and violent (fisting) anal sodomy. Although the data find
nearly all active "gay" men suffering from a variety of venereal and other infectious diseases, none of these are
mentioned in THE ADVOCATE ads. Indeed, only _b6% of the sex solicitations cautioned that the advertiser
was an AIDS carrier. although the AIDS research suggests that up to 75% of the advertisers may be AIDS
infected. Writing in Are Gay Rights Right? (1985) Roger Magnuson, noted:

At any time the notion of easy money has appeal to both youngsters and to others. This is especially
the case when jobs are scarce. For some boys and men the lure of speedy sodomy with a few customers would

Moreover, since 1975 the magazine presented medical warnings about the above sexu.ally transmitted
diseases, and stated bluntly that these were due to the promiscuity" of SO many gay men (at 500 sex
one's health is sure to deteriorate). Yet, despite the roU knowledge of the publisher and staff regarding the
causes of these deadly diseases, the magazine seils condomless prostitutes and helps broadcast the fatal disease
of AIDS.
It may be helpful to conclude this section on sodomy, child prostitution and youths, with a 1948 qUOte
from Morris Plascowe, past Magistrate of the Magistrates' Court of New York Ciry:

whether the goat of his team's legal sodomy crusade was to allow private sodomy between men - which was

Concluding this review, the data do not support the claim that boys are as safe with homosexual as

elevated rates of boys sexually victimized by males.

abuse of boys, "five times greater than the molestation of young girls- with a mean number of one

Blatant child pornography and child prostitution are dominant features of Wgay culture" as displayed
in THE ADVOCATE from its initial July 1m publication date to July 1991. The editorial position reflected
by the ADVOCATE ADVISOR and its advertisers, invites and favors man-boy sex. Criminalizalion of

On this note, an aUeged antisemitic "hate crime- has recently been traced back to the accuser. The
alleged now appears to have painted antisemitic graffiti on his own home in order to collect $31,000
in insurance money. (The Washington Post, July 17, 1991, B-1) Such misrepresentations would be a small

The Apri121, 1976 ADVOCATE included several photographs of the police raid on a common event;

sexualization of violence, masters and slaves - was dealt with unfairly. THE ADVOCATE treated the battery
of these " s l a v e ~ men, boys, and women, and the insults poured upon them by their gay mates differentially from
similar abuse by nongays. Moreover, as the nation becomes more aware of the level of "hate crimes- against
police officers, some critiQi argue that since gays advertise for smuzl violence [rom police, miJi.tary and Olher

Last year, 146 police officers nationwide were killed in the line of duty. In that same
period 71,794 officers were assaulted on the mob, an average of nearly 200 a day.

While this view of the human as many body parts exists in heterosexual "straight- pornography,

Jeffrey L. Dahmer. Dahmer's home was found littered with decapitated body parts and photographs and
drawings of mutilated dead bodies." The gay press made no connection between the body parts. the photos
and drawings, and the fact that the suspect had been dted for indecent exposure in 1982 Apparently, shonJy
thereafter, he was also convicted of "offering a 13-year-old boy $50 to pose for nude photos. He served a year
in jail and was placed on a 5-year probation. (The Washington Post, 24 July 1991) The New York Times
reported that: "The police said the victims were black men." (NIT, 24 July 1991, A14)
The New York Times, covering tbe same story also noted that the body parts belonged to black
victims - but there is no information regarding the ages of the dead. This newest mass murder-mutilation
follows an ever increasing pattern.
John Gacy of Indiana raped and tortured to death 33 boys and buried them in
basement. Randy Steven Kraft drove around the freeways of Los Angeles picking up
young men, whom he then drugged, sodomized, tortured, killed and mutilated ... :l have
never seen a serial killer who is a happily married family man, or who had a long-term
successful relationship with a woman' .... says Bob Ressler, a former FBI agent who
was a leading figure in developing profiles of serial Killers at the FBI academy in

gay Italian filmmaker, Pier Paolo Pasoline - murdered by a 17-year-old boy. However, the magazine purged
infonnation about the sexual abuse the boy was said to have suffered at the hands of the 53 year-old filmmaker
in the making of a brutal film, "Sal0 .... an S&M film .... version of De Sade." (:13)
In June 1991 a murder was reported in Milwaukee, Wlsconsin of a gay man "By Openly Homophobic
Attacker" Milwaukee's homosexual newspaper, The WISCOnsin Light said, "Keven Dutcher was stabbed to death
in his kitchen by Stewart E1lanson who [his] young age, had been a frequent resident of alcohol rehab
centers." Enanson aUegedly told the police ftI wanted to kill this fag. My whole life is devoted to killing faggots
and child molesters." The young man was apparently in the apartment as Mr. Dutcher's guest (June 26, 1991

When women and girls are raped and murdered in this fashion the press generally identifies how
victim and offender knew each other - where and how they met. Research is needed regarding who really
batten; and murdcn; gays. Such research would need to examine the possible role of adult child abuse victims

Huffman was Medical Director of the Brady East SOT Clinic. The press report did not express alarm that a
physician may have victimized incapacitated patients. violaled their trust and even possibly infected them with

wrote about a routine encounter leading to the death of a well known gay, a Bon Vivant who,

Intergay, gay-an-gay bashing is incited by THE ADVOCATE - in the guise of "S&M" "spanking"

condoned and part of prevailing "gay cultural values. From 1972-1991, 13-22% of ADVOCATE estoblishment

Until the prominence of gay sexuality in the general society, the "straight" world had rejected the idea
that brutality held a legilimate place in sexual relations between women and men, or within what was called
a lOving relationship. Therefore, when homosexual advocates called (or "hate crime to protect gays
from what was said to be "gay-bashing," Americans could not envision that the gay subculture could itself value
and instigate gay bashing. Based on normal male-female sexual standards which condemn such abuse the
public largely supported punishment for intergay offenders.
However, the data Identify THE ADVOCA TE as instigating not only intergay violence against boy and
adult members of its subculture, but doing so en masse with THE ADVOCATE producing roughly 6,500

Moreover, threats aDd abuse of gays by more violent gay fBctlons sugges18 other sources of "bate
crimes .. Within the privacy of their own culture, OUTWEEK (now defunct) revealed that lesbian and gay
organizational (Lambda) volunteers and staff' as well as others seen as politically incorrect- were being
threatened and assaulted by a violent gay male faction.
The prostitution of boys established earlier, the numbers of victims per pederast and the abuse of boys
by gays (pederasts) also suggests the reasons for many crimes against adult gays. Some murders of gay adults
have already been traced to brutally abused boys who take their revenge against adult gays -who mayor may
not have been guilty of victimizing the boys earlier. Research in this area is urgently needed to shed light on
both the victimization of boys and on the role of once-victimized boys in (alai injury to other boys, adult gays

the gay subculture called: "Black and White Men Together" condemns normative gay white male bigotry.
Within the small gay population, the existence of roughly six national organizations of black homosexuals,
substantiates the existence of a large black gay population.
THEADVOCATE, the WISCONSIN LIGHT, OUTWEEKand most other 1991 gay publications advertise
a lone, half nude, racist 'jungle' ad selling a Iight-skiTUU!d, caucasian-looking black man captioned as: "BLACK
MAGIC: FOR MEN OF COLOR AND FOR MEN WHO LOVE THEM." No similar ad: "White Magic for
White Men and Those Who Love Them" was located. The data find that all ADVOCATE sex ads are implicitly
"white only" unless JUJced (as i1t "all races welcome" or "blacks" etc). Moreover, interviews with recovering gays
confirms that ads which require a "pix" or "photo" are otten a ruse to avoid black responses.
From 97% up to 99% of THE ADV0C4TE "B" pages purged gay blacks. While blacks comprise
roughly 12% of the overall society, there is a very high proportion (30%) of black AIDS dead

This report is not designed to identify the many environmental factors which place the black male at
high risk of victimization from and participation in, lethal behavior - both sexual and nonsexuaL The nexus
of data does suggest that black men would be as seriously over-represented among gays as they are among
other unconventional groups and deviant populations. A strong indication ot higher rates of black male
homose:xua.l activity may be found in the new rash of AIDS victims: a majority of them, black women (51.9%)
and black chHdren. 304 Courtland Millroy, a black correspondent for TIu Washington Post delicately touched
on the significance of black male deviance for black women and children.
Black bisexuality is common. ... you meet many black men who have a family. but go
out to the clubs at nigbL..Black gays. .. are less likely to practice safe sex than white
gays, according to a study released last year by the National Task Force on AIDS
Prevention. Almost half of aU gay black men continue to engage in anal intercourse
without a condom - a percentage 2 1/2 times higher than that of the adult gay
population as a whole. ... black gay men are transmitting the AIDS virus to
unsuspecting black women and children - the groups with the fastest-growing rates
of infection in the United States. (July 18, 1991: eJ)
Bell and Weinberger found - in 1978 - that black gay males were almost double the number of
whites who admitted preference for anal sodomy (:108). Although Abel's pederast and pedophile data were
not revealed by race, blacks should also be over-represented beyond their national population nonns (12%)
in these two deviant populations. Millroy adds that "black gays generally agree that religion-rooted
homophobia in the black community keeps them closeted. Yet despite the religiOUS community, Abel's sex
offender population included 23.8% blacks (:41).
It is reasonable to extrapolate from the overall sex offender population to the child sex offender
group - that roughly 23.8% child molesters are black. H the size of deviant populations tend to reflect the
degree of toxicity in society, it is likely that blacks are also over-represented among gays and pederasts.
As recently as April 25, 1991 CUngressman Mitch McConnell stated that ~ 1 million children from 6
months to 16 years old are sexually molested and tben filmed or photographed." 35 He noted that this means
there are miUions of people addicted to child abuse/pornography.
Looking at the data confluences, while a compelling argument could be made that blacks may
constitute at least 20-30% of gays, in the premiere July 5, 1972 issue, only 3 of the 155 gays soliciting sex were
black. Moreover as gay males also define themselves by their sexual conduct,36 the gay "bathhouse" - as the
sex center - was largely the place where men gathered to "be men." As such, before AIDS awareness, the gay
bathhouse (even more than the anonymous sex found In gay "bars," "bookstores" and public toilets) was a
critical component of acceptance and of gay manhood. Bath houses:
are not for taking baths. That should be understood at the outset. Nobody pretends
they are for taking bathS; some of the houses have steam rooms, or sauDaS .... but that
is not why men pay their $5 or $10 for a locker or a tiny private room in a dimly lit
San Francisco bath house. Men use them to meet other men, to engage.sometimes in
what the clinical language calls "multiple, anonymous sexual contacts." There is no real
parallel in the Uves of most heterosexuals; straight sex clubs and houses of
prostitution exist, certainly, but they are not infused with cultural symbolism or

The racist findings suggest that black gay males inrernalize the -oeauty" 'r.:LIues of upscale lJiY white
men. And gay while men are cI.e2i' O!l what they feel constitutes beauty. "No fems or fats,' blond, blue eyes,
nordic, BB (bubble butt or Body Builder), and most of all well muscled youth. Young, slim white boys are
especially desired. Since this population is almost wholly focused on novelty, youth.md Nordic, or Germanic
physical "beaury" it would tend to require a degree of masoch.ism for black gays to identify with wllite gays.
Yet, they do.
Black males, often also suffer from early sex abuse, having largely lost their fathers and their families,
abandoned their church, and even being alienated -within their work environment, find themselves especially
dependent for acceptance on their new" family - the dominant white gay culture.
Funbermore, several have specified, in writing, their rejection of blacks, e.g., (as have some
blacks) "no fems, fats or blacks." Having identified this phenomena, an in depth data collection for frequencies
of such bigotry was beyond the scope of this study.
In a rare expose. May 3O-April 12,' 1991 the gay WISCONSIN LIGHT cited a black male artist
complaining about the "racism that confronts black men. ... refused entry to a Gay bar because ot.. color"
(6126,91 :3). That man, Marlon Riggs, creator of the gay pornogI2phic film, "Tongues United, said he was "an
invisible man' in the "great [white] gay mecca" of San Francisco. (THE WASHINGTON TIMES, July 16, 1991,
E-4).
In the same June WISCONSIN LIGHT issue of 19 pages, 23 ads (37% of the paper) sold sex, 26%
at these promising abuse (like to play roughr "are you man enough?"). The ads include the recent "Jungle
Magic" black for men of color, among the 22 other "macho' tough-guy men, including the ever-present pseudo-
nazi (but no "ferns or fats"). Women did not appear - white or black.
Concluding this brief review, despite gay claims for 'minority rights" likened to black rights, only
of blacks appear in the critical sex request aod advertisement "B" section of THE ADVOCATE. When blacks
do appear, they are usually light skin, caucasian featured and even "jungle" labeled.
AJthough blacks are almost 12% of American society, they make up 46% of prisoners, 30% of the

even despite the high percentage of blacks as intravenous drug users - it is reasonable to estimate that gay
males may be up to 20% Ot" more of "gay society.
Bisexu.a.1ity is allegedly practiced by some large number of blacks, with roughly half of black gays
(bisexuals included) admitting to anal sodomy practices, sans condoms. Along with intravenous drug use data, this
would help explain the high rate of black female AIDS infection. As with most sexological, sociological research,
the truly critical data - the percentage of black boys who have been sex.ually abused by adult men - information
critical to solving the AIDS crisis, may have been colluled, bur if so, il is not shared.
mE ADVOCA1E data find a statistically insignificant number of black gays included in either the visual
or print sex publication data. Moreover, of roughly 446,000 sex ads with about 5,000 bathhouses advertised during
that time, the models chosen to attract customers are "white onJy in ADVOCA1E ads.
As the bathhouses had long been the center of gay male "acceptance" the failure of the research sample to find
any black: gays pictured among roughly 5,000 bathhouse ads would confirm a sexual preference for exclusively white
gays in the bathhouses. Moreover, the preference and obsession with white, blond, young, slim. blue eyed male
customers places the gay black - split from his own community and family support system - in a vulnerable
position visa vis the dominant white gay culture.
Racism is visible in the sexual invisibility of up to perhaps 20% of the gay population, and it is manifest
as racial sexual preference bigotry in white gay society. These data are important in response to the recent Steffan
V. Cheney millitary decision which upheld the ban on homosexuals in the armed forces. Protestors compared this
decision to the old military ban against blacks. claiming a similar immutability (Washington Post 12/10/91:A4).
In this recent ruling. however, the chief authors expose of fraudulent Kinsey data was cited to challenge the
immutability argument (see Judith A. Reisman & Edward W. Eicbel, Kinsey, Sex and Fraud: The lnaoctrilUltion

Among even the most recent advertisements - in Pan B - only 1 % of advertisers even sought a
monogamous relationship. Despite the c1.aim that homose:ruals wish to have marriage privileges. etc, this
research confirmed Bell and Weinberg's (1978) findings that very few homosexual couples" acrually practiced
se:rua1 fidelity. In this medium. 1 % were couples seeking a third sa partner, such as "G/W cpI seek 3rd for

Moreover, several of these monogamy only ads in many of the issues were from an HIV + man seeking
sex: and/or a long term partner. The ad generally informed the reader that the AIDS carrier was also "healthy"

As noted, THE ADVOCATE mixed 58% prostitution ads and anal-aral sodomy ads in the magazine's
estimated sex advertisements with no serious warnings about the seller - or the buyer - engaging in
SAFE SEX ONLY."
Statistically, ADVOCATE consumers did not - aod do oot - seek a permanent, loving spouse for
safe sex. The gay violence ads (ads SOliciting brutality and slavery and the like) are part of a cultore of
multiple, anonymous, risky public sex and prostitution activities. Writing in the pro-homosexual book, Gay
and Lesbian Youth (1989) Debra Boyer observed the problem of young boys entering the "ga:f life and
accepting lhis pattern of unsafe sex as their "identity.
The increased number of adolescent males prostituting may be related to the greater
influence of the gay community. In contemporary times it has been possible to
organize one's entire life around the facts of homoerotic sexual onentation._[more]
a lifestyle than an individual condition. ... PartiaUy due to the success of the homophile
movement, the homosexual subculture provides nOl just sexual panners, but a total
identity. (174)37
Boyer found 363% of boy prostitutes admitted they were moiested by someone at least ten yean oldo
than they when they were children - over 42% had been raped. These youngsters were thus condemned
to Hves of continued abuse and dysfunction - including large numbers of panners, alcohol and drug abuse
problems and lethal sex practices.
Earlier the average number ofpanners per bomosexual male was defined in Bell and Weinberg (1978)

The data finds that for many gays sexual excitement has become so pathological that arousal depends
upon brutality and humiliation. The brutal fascist implications of incitement to boy abuse, violence and racism
are troublesome. This study has identified both a pederast taint to gay society and a lust for unprotected sex
and sexual violence - an at-risk combination (or American boys and society.
X. RECOMMENDATIONS - WORK IN PROGRESS
These preliminary findings strongly suggest that the problem of child sex abuse which overwhelms the
nation and puts children at life and death risk, requires that we examine the gay community for its agreement
with THE ADVOCATE positiOns on child sex abuse. A full scale random sample content analysis of all gay
press would tell us unequivocabaUy what homosexuals are thinking and doing. This "natural" unmonitored
self report data tens the nation what precisely aTe gay values, mores and conduct... Based on current gay
behavioral data, some have argued that it is time to abolish the sex laws which followed in Kinsey's wake and
and resulted in Iibralized bi/homosexual and sex offender conduct.

They have said that. based on hard data. sex offenders are repeat offenders, often e:scalating their
violence into and the like and the parole for sex crimes should be ended.. It would
be useful to study the role oC THE ADVOCATE and other gay press, in facilitating both child sa abuse and
in showing returning offenders that their sexual offenses against boys are normal and should continue 10 be
acted upon.
Beyond the compromising law enforcement data. these research indicate that bi/homosc:mal

gays from positions of authority and influence over children must be reinstated The immorality of
discriminating against a harmless popu1ation remains in place - if the population is harmless.
We need more data on the racial composition of the gay population and of IV drug users. These data
should not he too difficult to obtain. While AIDS S6lll1l BeJurvior anti InI7avawus Drug Use (1989) by the
National Research Council, proported to teU us about AIDS, they reYea1ed DO data on child prostitution and.
not a word about male - espociaUy boy prostitution. Nor did there seem to useable racial data on IV drug
using.
The outcome of this media research suggests a critical need to protect our children from marauding
deviantS. Recognizing the prevalence o{ "toxic- media, our children must have a safe harbor which protects
them from the images of them as desirable sex targets. This suggests the idea. of a need also to resurrect the
orphanage. As bad as these institutions were, today's situation is totally unworkable. Children, boys and girls,
must be taken off the streets. It is argued that if they cannot safely reside with their parents, these.
youngsters must be remanded into protective orpbanage custody to be fed, clothed, educated and medically
repaired up to age 18.
The more difficult (i.e., illegal) public sex is, the greater protection for our most at-risk public sex

A severe monitoring system to assess any abuses of child residents in the orphanage system would have
to be undertaken. However, it is this authors view that children can no longer be left to the preying desires
of pimps, pedophiles, pederasts and other deviant and violent men or women. These data suggest that
materials like THE ADVOCATE (a milder version of most gay publications) and other pornographies
promoting adult sex with children, will continue to be published and distributed. Since we are unable to
restrict these materials, we must at least remove as many of the target population, boys (and girls) from easy
access to these deviant and cruel populations.
