PROCESS INTENSIFICATION
A very recent subject in the field of chemical engineering is the Process Intensification, which
basically deals with the design of chemical process plants. Any chemical engineering development that
leads to a substantially smaller, cleaner, and more energy-efficient technology is ‘process
intensification’. It’s a process for improving profitability and remaining competitive. The aim of
intensification is to optimize capital, energy, environmental and safety benefits by radical reduction in
the physical size of the plant. Thus the concept is intimately connected with the physical nature of the
plant.

NANO-TECHNOLOGY
Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale.
Nanotechnology is widely defined as the science of engineering matter at the atomic and molecular
stage. Nano-Technology refers to the projected ability to construct items from the bottom up, using
techniques and tools being developed today to make complete, high performance products.

Now, nanotechnology taking its places, ranges from industrial production to energy supply and
storage, from information technology to intelligent surfaces and also some areas of medicine, like
diagnosis or therapy. Materials and applications based on nanotechnology are in use in almost all
sectors from personal care products, food packaging and textiles, through to coatings, electronics and
automotive.

CHEMICAL PROCESS & EQUIPMENT DESIGN

BOOKS
PLANT DESIGN AND ECONOMICS FOR CHEMICAL ENGINEERS
(5TH ED.)
AUTHOR: MAX PETERS, KLAUS TIMMERHAUS, RONALD WEST
PUBLISHER: MCGRAW-HILL
COMMENTS:
It’s a text reference book for chemical engineering plant design course. The new edition contains the
latest cost data as well as new emphasis on safety and H42OPS and a new chapter on Computer-Aided
Design. The book nicely balances both economics (cost estimating and cost data) and process equipment
design in one book.
