the world’, were carved from
walrus ivory in the 12th century,
between 1135 and 1170 in
Trondheim, the Medieval Period
capital of Norway. The 67 chess-
men as a group ranked No. 5 in
the list of British archeological
finds selected by experts at the
British Museum for the 2003 BBC
Television documentary Our Top
