Project topic: India & Pakistan Kashmir Tangle: A continuing problem

INTRODUCTION:

Pakistan on Kashmir is one of the serious issues that India is facing with Pakistan. Basically,
that is a territorial conflict which was started after the partition of Pakistan from India in the
year of 1947. Not only the Pakistan even our neighbouring country once upon a time
involved in that conflict. That issue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir gave rise to
many conflicts which subsequently lead to three wars. They are:

1) Indo- Pakistani war of 1947


2) Indo- Pakistan war of 1965
3) Kargil war of 1999

Indo Pakistan war of 1947: This war was fought between India and Pakistan starting from
October 21 of 1947 to December 31 of 1948. This is the first war fought between India and
Pakistan. During the war India referred this dispute to United Nations(UN) on January.
Therefore in a resolution dated august 13, 1948, the UN asked pakistan to remove its troops a
and after India was also made to withdraw the its forces. On January 1, 1949,, a cease fire
was agreed , with 65% of the land under Indian control and the remaining with the Pakistan.

Indo Pakistan war of 1965: This was the second conflict between the two countries over the
status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This war did not resolve the dispute, but it did
engage the United States and the Soviet Union in ways that would have important
implications for subsequent superpower involvement in the region.

Kargil war of 1999: This was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan in may, June
and July 1999 in the Kargil district of kashmir. The cause of this war was the infiltration of
the soldiers of Pakistan and Kashmiri militants into the positions on the Indian side of line of
control.
