Weather Across The Continents
CONTINENTS
Without going into the detail of its definition, in this article we will analyze
weather conditions across the continents.
From largest to smallest in size the continents across the globe are: Asia,
Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.
Asia
Weather in Delhi- In India, winter has set in. At present, maximum and
minimum in the capital city Delhi are hovering around 25°C and 18°C,
respectively. Clear skies and low humidity levels suggest absence of rain in
the offing.
Africa
Africa is not much a favorite among travelers because of its killing dryness
and flooding rains. East Africa witnesses dry weather conditions from
December to February/March and again from June to October. Rainy season
is observed in between these two periods. In West Africa, the dry season
starts from October/November and stays till April/May. Moving towards
southern Africa, it is hot from May to October and experiences rainfall from
November to April. It is a good time to visit this continent during the cooler
days i.e. from October to March.
Weather in Cape Town- Presently, day and night temperatures in the city
are 23°C and 14°C. Weather is warm and moist as it lies in the Southern
Hemisphere.
North America
Weather in New York- Similar conditions in New York with maximum and
minimum at -1°C and -6°C, respectively.
South America
Weather in Sao Paulo- Itis the largest city in Brazil and also South
America. Maximum here at present is 24°C while minimum is 14°C. Warm
and humid conditions are likely to prevail in the city for next few days.
Antarctica
Antarctica is not in the love list of tourists but this exotic place has a lot to
offer. During winters, the continent is packed with ice resulting in extreme
cold and round-the-clock darkness. November witnesses sunlight with warm
summer season when ice bricks start melting and birds like penguins come
out for courting and mating. Austral summer is experienced in December
and January with 20 hours of sunlight.
Europe
Europe has extremes of hot and cold season. June to August, the continent
seems to be busy tourists making the warm place even hotter. France and
Italy are some of the few countries, which are almost dead and silent during
August as most people are out for vacations.
During December, places like Prague or Paris seem to be buy with Easter
eggs, Christmas market and New Year parties. Scotland, Switzerland,
Scandinavia are some beautiful places to visit in winter and enjoy the chilling
snowfalls. Visiting summer destinations like Greece in winter can help you
shop costly things at cheaper prices. May, June and September are the best
months to visit Europe.

The areas most hit by typhoons in the Philippines are due to interplay of different factors.
Generally hit areas are mostly from Luzon and Visayas, while Mindanao doesn't get much of
it. Though the full reason is yet to be determined, here is my theory about it.
The country is within the world's typhoon belt. Due to the inter tropical convergence zone,
low pressure areas always occur on the pacific ocean and develop into typhoons. Hot air
from the ocean evaporates and condenses into thunderclouds and forms into storms or
typhoons.
Now, winds in the area of the world from 0° longitude to 30° longitude have winds that
move from north to east due to the Coriolis effect on the Earth's rotation. And the
Philippines is located 14° longitude. So the country is affected by it.
Due again to the Coriolis effect, hot air doesn't go directly from the outside to the eye of a
storm in a straight line. Like this,
As the typhoon or storm condenses enough air, it gains momentum and starts to move.
Now, in the process of travelling, it follows the direction of the trade winds. But since the
trade winds travel from north to east, instead of it acting like a straight road for the storm to
just follow, it acts like a stairs for the typhoon to climb. Because the storm’s spin is
necessarily faster, it climbs the trade winds and goes against the current, depending on the
circumstances.
Now, applying this scenario, the situation would closely resemble this.
My proof for this explanation is that, based on experience and observation, the path of the
typhoon always moves from west, on the Pacific Ocean, to either east to northeast, Vietnam
or China, or northward, to the southern area of Japan. But unlikely to reach as far as
Hokkaido.
Another factor that can affect is that, the western part of Mindanao is affected by ITCZ.
Northern and southern trade winds collide in these areas. They produce their own
thunderstorms or areas of no winds which can also deter the typhoons path.
