LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
At the end of the class, 100 % of the students should be able to learn 75% of the lesson and be
able to:
 transform equation into standard quadratic equation form;
 differentiate a , b , and c of quadratic equation;
 participate actively during discussion; and
 solve independently during assessment.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Subject : Mathematics 9
Topic : STANDARD QUADRATIC EQUATION

Materials : PowerPoint Presentation, chalk and board

III. LESSON PROCEDURE:

A. Pre-activities
1. Daily Activities
a. Prayer
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Collecting of Assignments

2. Motivation
Pre-Assessment: Recalling the past lesson to test their mastery in illustrating the
quadratic equations and differentiate the quadratic equation or not a quadratic equation.

B. Presentation:
1. Define the standard form of a quadratic equation
2. Illustrate again the quadratic term, the linear term and constant term.

C. Discussion:
a. Finding the a, b, and c of a quadratic equations
1. 2 x2 +5 x−3=0
b. Transform or rewrite some equation into standard quadratic form
2. 3 x ( x−2 ) =10
3. ( 2 x+5 )( x−1 )=−6
4. 3 x−2 x2 =7

C. Generalization:
Ask the students to differentiate the coefficients and constant of a quadratic
equation. Ask the students what is the steps in transforming equation into a standard
form of a quadratic equation.
D. Application:
Giving 2 different equations and they will transform into standard form of a
quadratic equation. Find the coefficients and constants.

2. 5−2 x 2=6 x

IV. ASSESSMENT:
Title: Set Me To Your Standard
Direction: Write each quadratic equation in standard form, ax 2 +bx +c=0 then identify the
values of a , b and c . Answer the questions that follow.
1. ( x +7 ) ( x−7 )=−3 x
2. ( x−4 )2 +8=0
3. ( 2 x−1 )2=( x+ 1 )2
Follow-up questions:
1. How did you write each quadratic equation in standard form?
2. What mathematics concepts or principles did you apply to write each quadratic
equation in standard form?
3. Which quadratic equations did you find difficult to write in standard form? Why?

V. ASSIGNMENT:
One-half sheet of paper:
Answer the following questions
1. How do you write quadratic equations in standard form? Give at least 3 examples.
2. The following are the values of a , b , and c that Edna and Luisa got when they expressed
5−3 x =2 x 2 in standard form.
Edna: a=2 ; b=3 ; c=−5
Luisa: a=−2 ; b=−3 ; c=5
What do you think got the correct values of a , b , and c ? Justify your answer.
