A SONNET

FOR THE LAND AND SEA WARRIORS

OF STA. CATALINA, ILOCOS SUR
//Don Jerod B. Asuncion

Thy livelihood, it inspires me to fight.

I want to know how you nurture and grow,
An ever garden of seeds for delight,
That beckons the golden sun rays to show.

Millions of people savor sure comfort,

While a father rides a staggery boat
The fisher’s trade takes a role giving birth
Is it a long battle that they gave oath?

As deep as the ocean is between them,

So is their love for the small things in you
It grows a lifetime that the young possess.
Each effort fills a steady plate of few.

May you harvest everything that you’ll find,

But always be humane with nature in mind.
