1. Prerequisites
a. Connect our laptop to the System module
Step 1: go to Control panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, Local
Area Connection
We have this

We connect an RJ45 cable on LMP (Local Management Port) port on the FSMF to the RJ45
port of our machine. We open BTS Site Manager. At the level of Connect on BTS Site Manager,
we use as
IP address: 192.168.255.129
Password: nemuuser

The procedure to check the software version of our System Module is the following:
When we receive a new FSMF, the version of the software can be LN_WN_FDSW20_013.
If it is the case, how to update the software from this version to version 17?
5
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA
- A window which will ask you to confirm that it is your System Module that is recognized
will appear. Enter y.
6

Notice:
Configure your laptop with the following IPs
IP address: 192.168.255.130
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
The default IP address of the FSMF is 192.168.255.129
- After entering y, you will have another question about removing operator certificate,
enter n.
7
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA
- The following question that will be asked is about the activation of non-running partition,
select n to continue.
- The following point concerns the BTS Software. Which version of software do you want
to put in your System Module?
Connect to the FTP server at this address ftp://10.124.254.4/

Notice: it is possible that there is another folder named Nokia Solutions and Networks be
sure to not choose it.
The RFSTool will check the link above to see if there is a software file inside.
1 because it is the only version of software that we find in that folder. So you enter 1.
- And the last point is about the restoration. Enter y to start the restoration of FSMF.
At this level, it will take some minutes the time to clean, load, verify the new software
and reset the BTS.

Our FSMF is now updated to version 17 and it is ready for the next step namely install FBBA
and interconnect to the System Module.
The FBBA sub-module is an optional extension to the Flexi Multiradio BTS System Module.

GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA
- 2 QSFP
- 2 Power cables
The procedure step-by-step to interconnect 2 FBBAs to the System Module FSMF is the
following:
Notice:
- The FSMF must be powered off when the connections are done.
Step 3: remove the seals and connect one of the power cables in DC Out port on the
FSMF to the DC In port on the first FBBA. Then the other power cable from the DC Out port
on the first FBBA to the DC In port on the second FBBA.
14

Step 4: connect one of the QSFP cable from the BB EXT1 port on the FSMF to the BB
EXT port on the first FBBA. And connect the other QSFP cable from the BB EXT2 port on
the FSMF to the BB EXT port on the second FBBA.
Notice:
- Make sure the power cable is connected before connecting the QSFP cable.
When we connect the QSFP cable, pay attention to the small white band. You should
insert it as the picture below shows:

Step 1: prepare the Main FSMF, FBBAs and RF modules first. Connect all hardware and
upgrade the software (WN 17).
Step 2: commissioning the Main FSMF only to enable the EIF2/RF/6 port as an RP3
interface, ready to be connected to the Extension FSMF. This can be achieved by commissioning
the TRS.
Step 3: prepare the Extension FSMF. Do not connect the Extension FSMF to the Main
FSMF yet. Ensure that the software has been upgraded to match that of the Main FSMF (WN
17).

Step 4: connect the Extension FSMF to the Main FSMF using the 3 fibers (FSKA).
FSMF Master
FSMF Slave
Connect one optical fiber FSKA on the EIF2/RF/EXT6 port on the FSMF Master
to the EIF2/RF/EXT6 port on the FSMF Slave.
Connect the other optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Master
to the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Slave.
Connect the optical fiber FSKA on the SRIO port on the FSMF Master to the
SRIO port on FSMF Slave.
Connect the power cable on the FPFD DC Out on the FSMF Master to the DC In
port on the FSMF Slave.

To enable the Extension FSMF to operate in this role it will need a configuration reset.
The configuration reset deletes any existing configuration data and withdraws the Master System
Module role. The process is performed with the Configuration Reset button located on the under-
side of the EIF1 port of the FSMF:
21
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA
Make sure the LMP port of the Extension FSMF has nothing connected to it.
Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds and release. Within two minutes the
‘STATUS’ LED will change from amber to red (for a second or two) then back to
amber, the module will not go into full reset and the fans will not fully ramp up.
After the STATUS LED changes back to amber do a short (< 1 second) press of
the configuration reset button, the Extension FSMF will immediately do a full
reset and the fans ramp up.
Now observe the SRIO LED on both FSMFs. Following the Extension FSMF
reset it should be flashing green on the Main FSMF but flashing red on the Ext.
After about 5 minutes the Extension FSMF will do a second, short reset, the fans
will ramp up.
Wait approx. 2 minutes for the Extension FSMF to complete this reset, after
which the SRIO LED on the both Main and Ext FSMFs should be solid green.
This confirms that communication between the FSMFs is established and the
Extension FSMF should by now be visible in BTS Manager:
Step 7: Once the Extension FSMF is detected fully commission the WBTS to complete
the implementation

Notice:
- The Master System Module may need the capacity extension sub-module (FBBA)
- The RF Module must be connected to the Master System Module. In our
configuration, in the port RF/EXT1
- Power supply can be also delivered from an external power source

The FSME System Module can be used as a System Extension Module operating in a
baseband extension mode to add channel capacity.
a. Interfaces of FSME
The System Module FSMF front panel is illustrated in the following figure:

We have seen the different interfaces of FSMF and FSME. Now how to interconnect
Extension FSME to the Master FSMF?
We consider that the 2 Systems Modules have the same software version (WN 17 in our
case).
Step 1: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Master to the
OPT-EXT 1 port on the extension FSME.
Step 2: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT3 port on the FSMF Master to the
OPT-EXT 2 port on the extension FSME.
Step 3: connect the power cable on the FPFD DC Out on the FSMF Master to the DC In port
on the extension FSME.

Notice:
If the Extension System Module has been extracted from an existing site and adding it as an
extension to another BTS, we need to reset its configuration to be visible by the Main System
Module.
Step 1: go to configuration

Interconnect two FSME Systems Modules, one as Master and the other one as Slave require
that we perform 2 optical connections and 1 for the DC.
Step 1: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the OPT-EXT 1 port on the FSME Master to the
OPT-EXT 1 port on the extension FSME.
Step 2: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the OPT-EXT 2 port on the FSME Master to the
OPT-EXT 2 port on the extension FSME.
Step 3: connect the power cable from the FPFB DC Out port on the FSME Master to the DC
In port on the extension FSME.
Notice:
- Power supply can be also delivered from an external power source besides FPFB.
- No transmission card needed in the Extension System Module
