b. Connecting Flexi Multiradio Extension System Module (FSMF)

to the Master System Module (FSMF)

To perform an interconnection between 2 FSMFs there are some prerequisites in terms of

material. The following is the list of material which will allow us to do the interconnection:

- 2 FSMFs
- 3 FSKAs
- 6 SFP modules (6 Gb)

18
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA

Optical fiber FSKA SFP 6Gb

Step 1: prepare the Main FSMF, FBBAs and RF modules first. Connect all hardware and
upgrade the software (WN 17).

Step 2: commissioning the Main FSMF only to enable the EIF2/RF/6 port as an RP3
interface, ready to be connected to the Extension FSMF. This can be achieved by commissioning
the TRS.

Step 3: prepare the Extension FSMF. Do not connect the Extension FSMF to the Main
FSMF yet. Ensure that the software has been upgraded to match that of the Main FSMF (WN
17).

19
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA

Step 4: connect the Extension FSMF to the Main FSMF using the 3 fibers (FSKA).

There is no need to power it down.

FSMF Master

FSMF Slave

 Connect one optical fiber FSKA on the EIF2/RF/EXT6 port on the FSMF Master
to the EIF2/RF/EXT6 port on the FSMF Slave.
 Connect the other optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Master
to the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Slave.
 Connect the optical fiber FSKA on the SRIO port on the FSMF Master to the
SRIO port on FSMF Slave.
 Connect the power cable on the FPFD DC Out on the FSMF Master to the DC In
port on the FSMF Slave.

20

FPFD

Power cable

Step 5: disconnect from the LMP port of the Extension FSMF.

The following configuration reset will not work if anything is connected to the LMP.
Step 6: carry out a configuration reset of the Extension FSMF.

To enable the Extension FSMF to operate in this role it will need a configuration reset.
The configuration reset deletes any existing configuration data and withdraws the Master System
Module role. The process is performed with the Configuration Reset button located on the under-
side of the EIF1 port of the FSMF:

21
GUIDELINE TO EXTEND CAPACITY IN 3G NOKIA

On the Extension FSMF only.

Make sure the LMP port of the Extension FSMF has nothing connected to it.

Carry out a configuration reset of the Extension FSMF only:

 Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds and release. Within two minutes the
‘STATUS’ LED will change from amber to red (for a second or two) then back to
amber, the module will not go into full reset and the fans will not fully ramp up.
 After the STATUS LED changes back to amber do a short (< 1 second) press of
the configuration reset button, the Extension FSMF will immediately do a full
reset and the fans ramp up.
 Now observe the SRIO LED on both FSMFs. Following the Extension FSMF
reset it should be flashing green on the Main FSMF but flashing red on the Ext.
After about 5 minutes the Extension FSMF will do a second, short reset, the fans
will ramp up.
 Wait approx. 2 minutes for the Extension FSMF to complete this reset, after
which the SRIO LED on the both Main and Ext FSMFs should be solid green.
This confirms that communication between the FSMFs is established and the
Extension FSMF should by now be visible in BTS Manager:
Step 7: Once the Extension FSMF is detected fully commission the WBTS to complete
the implementation

We have seen the different interfaces of FSMF and FSME. Now how to interconnect
Extension FSME to the Master FSMF?

b. Interconnect the extension FSME to the Master FSMF

To perform this interconnection, we need

- 1 System Module FSMF (Master)

- 1 System Module FSME (Slave)
- 2 FSKA of 2 m max of length
- 4 SFP Modules of 6Gb (FOSH)

We consider that the 2 Systems Modules have the same software version (WN 17 in our
case).

3 connections are required:

Step 1: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT2 port on the FSMF Master to the
OPT-EXT 1 port on the extension FSME.

Step 2: connect one optical fiber FSKA on the RF/EXT3 port on the FSMF Master to the
OPT-EXT 2 port on the extension FSME.

Step 3: connect the power cable on the FPFD DC Out on the FSMF Master to the DC In port
on the extension FSME.

27

Notice:

- The port RF/EXT1 is used by the RF Module.

- No transmission card needed in the Extension System Module
- Power supply can be also delivered from an external power source besides FPFD.

If the Extension System Module has been extracted from an existing site and adding it as an
extension to another BTS, we need to reset its configuration to be visible by the Main System
Module.
Step 1: go to configuration

Step 2: configuration reset

28
