Impromptu Speaking – is a speech that a person delivers without preparation.


4 Methods of Delivering a Speech
1. Manuscript Speech/speaking
- a spread reads the prepared documents
2. Memorized speech
3. Extemporaneous speech
-a speech with limited time for preparation
4. Impromptu speech
-a not prepared speech

3 Types of Speeches
1. Informative Speech – provides information
2. Persuasive Speech – persuade the audience’s belief
3. Special Occasion – a speech that fits the occasion

Steps in Delivering a Speech


1. Know your subject and your speech
2. Know your audience and your space
3. Never apologize
4. Imagine yourself giving a great speech
5. Focus on your message, not on yourself

Mechanics:
1. The students will give a short speech on topics drawn at random.
2. The topic for the speech shall be given on the day of the activity.
3. Allotted time must be followed strictly.
4. There will be a 30 second thinking time after the topic has been given to the contestants.
5. The impromptu speech shall be given to 1 minute for elimination and 2 minutes for the final
round.
