Chapter 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of the findings gathered in this investigation,

conclusions and recommendations.

Summary

This study that dealt with the Analysis of Biohazardous Waste Management Practices of

Hospitals in Puerto Princesa City.

Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions:

1. What are the practices of biohazardous waste management of hospitals in

Puerto Princesa City?

2. What describes the biohazardous waste management practices of hospitals in

Puerto Princesa City in terms of:

a. Collecting and Segregating,

b. Storing and Transporting,

c. Treatment,

d. Disposal,

e. Program Objectives,

f. Organization and Management,

g. Monitoring?

3. What possible hazards are associated on the biohazardous waste management

practices of hospitals in Puerto Princesa City?

The following conclusions were formulated based on the findings obtained:

Recommendations

Based on the findings of the study, the following are hereby recommended:

Department Of Health (DOH), Elementary and High School Teachers, Palawan National

School (PNS)

1. Conduct practices on implementing the cleanliness, health and environmental conscious

program through clean-up drives.

2. Monitoring proper waste segregation by assigning people that would ensure that the waste is

properly segregated.

3. Organize seminars and participate in all programs related to maintaining cleanliness and

improving proper waste segregation.


Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD)

1. Conduct a program about composting biodegradable materials to become fertilizers and to

ensure the sustainability of life which also promotes the product of the study in their activity and

has the potential to be a source of income as well as livelihood for people.

The Academic Community, Local Agencies, Business Sector of Puerto Princesa City

1. Improve the practices of proper waste segregation to develop a clean community.

2. Conduct a program about assessing the proper waste segregation and strengthen the bond of

Puerto Princesa city in being the last frontier.

3. Implement an activity for creating recyclable materials out of waste to be sold to the

community.

Local Residents

1. Perform clean-up drive practices to maintain the cleanliness, reduce waste and to follow the

regulations on proper waste segregation practices in every household.

2. Cooperate in upcoming seminars in the community.

3. Develop a campaign with regards to proper waste segregation and for the beautification of the

community.

The Future Researchers

1. Perform further study on solid waste management about level of awareness of the residents in

a specific community.

2. Conduct study in formulating a framework strategy on solid waste management and other

serious issues in Purok masikap.

Solid Waste Management


1. Conduct activities that will educate people about the importance of proper waste segregation.

2. Promote and provide technical and financial support to local research and development

programs and projects in communities.

3. Improve coordination with other organizations and local authorities in harmonizing and

reconciling SWM policies.

Oplan Linis

1. Create a good plan on how they will reduce the waste here in Puerto Princesa City particularly

to Purok Masikap in Barangay Bancao-Bancao.

2. Consolidate, develop or customize Oplan Linis training-of-trainers training modules for

utilization of information channels, educational institutions and advocates, including the use of

visual aids and instructional.

Purok officials and Barangay Officials

1. Conduct program that discusses the importance of proper waste segregation, beautification and

sanitation of the community.

2. Provide a proper Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to serve as an intermediate processing

step between the collection of recyclable materials from waste generators and the sale of

recyclable materials to markets for use in making new products.

3. Conduct an activities and contests where all local residents are required to join with regards to

beautification of the purok in which they will use recyclable wastes as the main design.
