Connect the stator blue and black/red ignition charge wires to the engine hamess bullet connectors. 6. Install the terminal holder cover. 7. Install the flywheel. Refer to Flywheel Removal and Installation. 8. Install the recoil assembly and timing belt cover. Refer to Section 8A - Recoil Starter. Timing Belt Removal and Installation Timing Belt Removal NOTE: The stator must be removed before the timing belt can be removed or installed. Refer to Stator Removal and Installation. IMPORTANT: Do not rotate the crankshaft or cam when the timing belt Is removed unless advised to do so, Damage to valves and/or pistons may occur if the cam driven gear or crankshaft are rotated when the timing belt is removed or incorrectly installed. 1, Remove the three bolts securing the coil bracket, Remove the coil bracket, Page 2A-20 90-899987 NOVEMBER 2008 Ignition 2, Remove the engine lifting eye. Ensure the timing marks on the crankshaft and cam are in proper alignment before removing the timing belt. Use a crankshaft holding tool to rotate the crankshaft to align timing marks. 4, Pull the timing belt off the camshaft driven gear. Remove the timing belt from the crankshaft drive gear. a- Crankshaft drive gear timing mark b - Camshaft driven gear timing mark for cylinder #1 Timing Belt Installation 4. Ensure the timing marks on the crankshaft drive gear and the camshaft driven gear are in proper alignment. 2. Place the timing belt onto the crankshaft drive gear. Align the timing belt cog with the driven gear cog. 4, Carefully push the timing belt onto the cam driven gear. 90-899987 NOVEMBER 2008 Page 2A-21 Ignition 5. Rotate the crankshaft with crankshaft holding tool while pushing the timing belt onto the driven gear with your fingers. 6. Check the timing marks for proper alignment, 7. Install the coil bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque. 8. Install the engine lifting eye. Crankshaft Position Sensor Removal and Installation Electric Start Models REMOVAL 1, Remove the spark plug leads from the spark plugs. 2. Disconnect the battery. 3. Remove the recoil starter.
