4.1Introductory Activity
Motivation:
Ask: How are you today?
 Write their responses on the board like happy, sad, excited, and so on.
Form a group of five members.
 Metacards will be provided to each group with the following words/emotions listed:
-happiness -anger -excitement
4.2 Activity
-sadness -nervousness -jealousy
 Try to make your own definition of the previously given words. Write your answers on the board.Present your
work.
Think critically so as to give comments to the work of other groups.
Teacher processes the activity guided by the following questions:

Discussion of the nature, process and features of definition.
A definition paragraph is a paragraph explaining a term or subject, so your audience comprehends the topic of
the paragraph. This can be done in three different ways: Synonym, Class, and Negation.
4.4 Abstraction After discussion, the teacher asks the following questions:
 What is a definition paragraph? How is it done?
 What are the features of a definition paragraph?
 How does one apply definition as the primary mode of paragraph development?

interpreted differently by different people, it is necessary to put a denotation so that there is a working definition
in the essay.
____B. Connotation and extended definition are optional in writing a definition essay because people have
different interpretations of words and concepts that including them would only confuse readers.
____C. The techniques of defining mentioned above are the only techniques writers can choose from when
dealing with a definition essay.
____D. The definition essay is the most effective mode of paragraph development when asked to make a
concept paper.
____E. It is important to explain and clarify how you understand a concept so that your reader can be
