SINGLE SEPARATOR ADJUSTMENT
The Single Separator Cap Magazine Plate is located and secured to the 60L Cap Feed Bracket by
one flat screw & two Hex. Head Screws. Cap Guide Rails are located by dowels and spacer blocks that
will only allow a very small amount of movement that may be required to assist in cover clearance when
the covers are transferred by Cap Pushers.
1. Cap Magazine Guides & Chute Rods (see the sketch below)
A. Locate the Front Cap Magazine Guide to provide a smooth transfer of covers from the bottom edge
of the Guide down into the Cap Guide Rail and tighten screws.
B. Adjust both left and right Cap Magazine Guides to provide a total of .020 of an inch clearance on a
1 inch stack of covers. This clearance is measured from the bottom of the Magazine Guides. Center the
left and right Cap Magazine Guides, with covers in place, with the Separator Spindle to insure that the
center line of the Separator Spindle and cover stack are in line. Tighten screws. The Left Cap Magazine
Guide may have to be ground off to clear the cover.

2. Separator Disc & Knife to Inner Cap Guide Rail Relationship
A. Adjust the Separator Bracket by loosening two screws holding the Bracket to the Cap Feed Plate.
Move the Separator Assembly until the bottom of the Separator Disc "Root" (helical cut) is even with
the Cap Guide Rail Inner track edge.
NOTE: This will provide a smooth transfer of covers into the Inner Cap Guide Rail track keeping covers
from catching on the Rail lip. Tighten Bracket Screws.
The Separator Disc should clear the cover by approximately .010 of an inch as it passes over.
A. Loosen two screws on the side of the Separator Bracket that clamp against the Separator Spindle.
Raise or lower the Separator Disc until .010 clearance is provided between the Disc and Cover.
Use a feeler gauge to check this dimension.
Rev.2-8/6/02-DS
11/24
Angelus Model 60L Single Separator Instructions
4. Cap Magazine Guide Rear Adjustment. (see sketch on previous page)
A. Install Shim washers behind Cap Magazine Guide Rear until a total of .020 of an inch clearance is
provided, for a 1 inch stack of covers, between the Front Guide and Rear Guide.
NOTE: Measure from the bottom of these Magazine Guides, they taper out above the 1 inch line. Install
the same amount of shim washers on both screws that secure the Guide in place. The Cap Magazine Guide
Rear height is adjusted after the NC NC Finger is setup.
A. Use the Handwheel to rotate the Seamer around until one of the Cap Pushers mounted on the Cap Feed
Turret is approximately 1/4 inch from entering the Magazine area. This is a preliminary setting.
B. With the Drive Belt removed, Rotate the Separator Disc around feeding a cover down the helical cut
of the Disc until it just releases the cover into Cap Guide Rails. Rotate the Disc until it starts to cover
the end. Stop turning the Disc.
Rev.2-8/6/02-DS
12/24
Angelus Model 60L Single Separator Instructions
Check transfer of a cover by repeating this process by feeding another cover through using the
Seamer Handwheel. There should be no binding on the cover during its descent to Cap Guide Rails. The
bottom of the descending cover should just clear the preceeding Feed Turret pocket as it passes under.
Make fine adjustments by loosening the Clamp Collar over the Belt Pulley and rotating the Separator
Disc. When Cap Pushers make contact with covers, the Separator Disc should have rotated well over the
leading edge of covers to control entry into Cap Guide Rails.
6. NC NC Finger Adjustment.
A small pneumatic drive piston controls movement of the NC NC Finger. Stroke length is fixed.
Actuation is controlled by Flag and Can Sensors mounted on the Can Guide Rail and Separator Drive
Gear. Instructions for all the Electrical setup follows these Mechanical Instructions. Follow the next few
steps in setting up the NC NC Finger.
A. De-energize the NC NC Finger to allow the Finger action to draw away from the Cover stack.
B. Loose the NC NC Finger clamp screw. Then slide the Finger up on the Pivot Shaft, insert a .010 feeler
gauge under the Finger, apply slight downward pressure on the Finger, Tighten the clamp screw and pull
out the feeler gauge.
C. Loosen the Pivot Shaft clamp screws located in the clamp collar. Adjust NC NC Finger until covers
will pass uninterupted onto the Separator Disc. Tighten the Clamp Screws. NC NC Finger actuation
should place the Finger into the Cover stack far enough when de-energized and stop cover feed.
D. Adjust Cap Magazine Guide Rear downward until there is approximately .005 to .010 of an inch
clearance between the NC NC Finger and the bottom of Cap Magazine Guide Rear. Tighten Screws in
the Guide.

NO CAN NO COVER SYSTEM
See Data Sheet G60.216A at the end of this section.
To insure that cans have covers and empty spaces are left without covers. This NC NC System has
a solid state control unit and two input sensors. The Input Sensors located on the In-Feed Table is the
"Can" sensor. When a can passes in front of the sensor face, an output signal is sent back to the control
unit.
The input sensor located in the Cap Feed Bracket is the Flag Timing Sensor. The Flag Sensor picks
up it's signal from the Separator Drive Gear Mounting Ring and NC NC Flag. This Sensor, when
actuated, will pulse an output signal for every pass of the NC NC Flag. One revolution of the Separator
Drive Gearwith NC NC Flag, represents one cover or one can being fed.
This information from both input sensors is required to produce a logical output from the PLC, NC
NC Solenoid Valve and allow the system to feed or not feed a cover.
This system is based on a no can condition, in which the solenoid will energize and prevent lid feed.
When both sensor signals are applied, the output will go low and the solenoid will be de-energized. At
the next flag input, but with an absence of a can sensor input, the PLC will change states and the out-
put will go high. This will energize the output and energize the 24VDC Solenoid.
Mechanical and Electrical timing of the Cover Feed System is essential. Electrically, it is important
that the can sensor will produce it's signal before the flag sensor, because at the rise or initiation of a flag
pulse, the decision is made whether to feed a cover or not.
Mechanical Timing (see page 10) All mechanical timing must be completed before making Electrical
settings.

Can Sensor Types
The two types of can sensors that can be used are self contained, 10-30 VDC, and applicable
depending on can characteristics, atmospheric conditions, or engineering recommendations. These
sensors are mounted on the Can Guide Rail. (see page 7 for mounting dimensions)
Electrical Timing
Use the Handwheel to rotate the Seamer around until a can lines up with the can sensor. Check
location of the Cap Separator Mechanisms. At this point, check location of the Separator Gear Flag to
Flag Sensor. The NC NC Flag should almost be in line with the sensor. See Flag Signal layout
on the next page. If not, change location of the Flag mounted to the Separator Drive Gear Mounting Ring.
The Flag signal should come on after the can input signal.
Trouble Shoot
Output signal stays on regardless 1. Sensor improperly wired.
of targets presence or absence. 2. Unwanted metallic objects are too close to sensor.
3. Sensor failure.
Output signal stays off regardless 1. Sensor too far from target.
of presence or absence. 2. Sensor failure

PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT
As part of an ongoing effort to provide our customers with the best machines possible,
we at Pneumatic Scale Angelus (PSA) are continually trying to improve the design of
our machines and their component parts. As a result, there may be instances where a
part that is illustrated in this manual may be similar in design but not identical to the
ordered part. If this situation is encountered, note the difference on your purchase
order between the part ordered and the one represented in this manual. Doing this will
help PSA personnel determine whether or not the improved part can be used on your
machine.
