Office of The Director General of Civil Aviation
1. PURPOSE:
This part of CAR specifies a maximum overhaul period on calendar basis between
two consecutive overhauls, irrespective of the operational life of the engine in terms
of operating hours, to ensure safety/ airworthiness of engines even when the
utilisation is low.
This CAR is issued under the provision of Rule 133A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
2. APPLICABILITY:
This applies to all types of reciprocating engines and the accessories mounted on
such engines unless any particular accessory has been specifically permitted to
operate otherwise.
3. SCOPE:
Prolonged storage or very irregular and low utilisation may lead to internal
deterioration of engines even when preserved under recommended conditions.
Hence an indefinite lapsed period between overhaul of such engines may not always
ensure adequate safety during subsequent operation.
Note: However, if the manufacturer has laid down overhaul periodicity on calendar
basis between two consecutive overhauls, the manufacturer's requirement
prevails.
