WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR LATTICE STEEL TOWER FOUNDATION UNDERNEATH OF THE
EXISTING LIVE LINES IN PORTION VII TO XI
This procedure provides the requirements needed for foundation activity specifically underneath
of the live line, where it also includes the requirement for safety and quality control. The
principal purpose of this procedure is to lay-out all necessary requirements to achieve safety and
standard quality of 380KV OHTL Project.
2.0 SCOPE:
To carryout 1st Stage and 2nd Stage foundation activities, underneath of existing 69kV OHTL. Line
details are as below,

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:
Upon confirmation of existing live line CKT-A outage, required structure grounding will be done
as per SEC/Consultant instructions. Four two rigs will be engaged in Loc# Z2/1, T#33, K/1 after
completion of equipment grounding, all the possible pile foundation activities will be carryout.
Remaining foundations in the structure location will be carried out upon conformation of CKT-B outage.
After completion of 1st Stage pile foundation concreting in Loc. Z2/1, T#33, K/1 stub angle setting
nd
and 2 Stage concreting works will be carried out underneath of existing live line under live condition
with hot line work permit (HLW).
6.2 Steps and Procedure for Prior to Start the Activity under the Existing OHLT:
6.2.5 Check Proper ground compaction and enough space for crane and rig movement.

The surveyor will fix tower center point with its alignment and foundation setting level with respect to the
existing GL, at each tower location.
6.3.2 Excavation
General Excavation:
Soil will be excavated with suitable equipment as required for the type of soil. Final adjustment for the required
depths of excavation is usually done by smaller equipment or even by manual labor. Over excavations are
avoided, however, in unavoidable circumstances the extra depth is backfilled with concrete with the
Engineer's approval.
Reinforcement steel is fixed after completion of the excavation. Deformed steel bars according to the required
standard are generally used as the reinforcement steel. The steel is cut and bent at the supplier's workshop, in
accordance with the requirements of the designs /drawings. The steel quality is duly certified by the mill test
certificates. Due margins are provided in the steel bars to be cut at site for any adjustment desired. Tie wires 14
AWG are used for fixing the reinforcement steel cages. Spacers are attached to the steel to provide due concrete
cover for steel. Plastic or concrete spacers are used for this purpose. The steel cages for caisson and pile
foundations may be fabricated at the supplier's workshop or at site workshop and lowered into the drilled holes
before concreting.
6.3.4 Dewatering
Excavated pits of the foundation may require dewatering in case of high water table. Dewatering is achieved by
using adequate pumps to maintain dry conditions during concreting.

WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR LATTICE STEEL TOWER FOUNDATION UNDERNEATH OF THE
EXISTING LIVE LINES IN PORTION VII TO XI
Where required, forms are used to cast the required size and shape of the foundation. Form work to be used may
be of the steel or wood, for each type of foundation except caisson and pile types, where form is not required.
The forms are made as per the foundation dimensions in parts and bolted together for the completed foundation.
The fixing of the form work in position is obtained by jacks and wooden props as per the space availability.
Stub Setting for heavier towers is done by means of setting templates for single legs. The setting dimensions are
prepared separately as per the tower designs. The stubs are bolted on the template to hold it in the final position.
All dimensions and setting checks and cross checks are performed as per the check list (format-F23) and declared
ready for concrete. The format F2 also provided for post concrete checks.
In case of light towers, stub setting is achieved by means of 4 - legs template or placing in position the tower base
which ensures the setting of the stub in its final position. An adequate template may also be used as the case may
be.
6.3.7 Concreting
Described here below is the general concreting method which will be adopted for all types of foundation casted.
The method uses ready mix concrete obtained from an approved source. The concrete ingredients are mixed by
weight, at the approved batching plant and transported in truck mixer in accordance with ASTM C94, ACI 304 and
ACI 31 B. Admixtures and retarding agents are used according to the requirements and specifications as
approved.
The placement of concrete is with the help of a portable chute if depth is more than 1.5 meters from the bottom
of the mixer truck chute, or concrete pouring pumps are used as required.
Motor driven vibrators are used during concreting to avoid void/ air pockets in the concrete.
The concreting of pile foundations will be done in the following two stages.
The slump of the concrete does not exceed 175mm in case of Pile foundations and 125 mm slump in case of
chimney foundations.
Concrete curing is important so that it dries out slowly in moist conditions to obtain the required strength, Curing
may be done by applying the approved curing compounds or by watering the concrete after being casted.
Back filling is done immediately after completing the foundation and applying the concrete curing procedure.
Earth removed in the excavation is used to back fill if suitable. If the excavated earth is insufficient, or have
boulders and stones of more than 10cm, the backfill material is taken from the adjacent area or borrow pit
approved by the Engineer.
The back filling is done in layers of 150 mm each and compacted as per specifications.
