PURPOSE:

In pursuant to Republic Act 11036 (Mental Health Act) and Republic Act 11058 (An Act Strengthening
Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties Thereof), the
Company hereby provides this policy.

SCOPE:

As mental health problems and stress can affect anyone, regardless of their position in the organization,
this policy applies equally to all employees. The implementation of this policy will also be supported by
other health and safety policies, e.g. sickness absence, alcohol, drug and substance abuse, and bullying
and harassment.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To tackle workplace factors that may negatively affect mental well-being, and to develop
management skills to promote mental wellbeing and manage mental health problems
effectively.

2. To develop a culture based on trust, support and mutual respect within the workplace.

3. To provide support and assistance for employees experiencing mental health difficulties.

4. To recognize that workplace stress is a health and safety issue, and acknowledge the importance
of identifying and reducing workplace stressors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. MANAGEMENT

 Monitor the workplace, identify hazards and risks and take steps to eliminate or
reduce these as far as is reasonably practicable.

 Ensure good communication between management and employees, particularly


where there are organizational and procedural changes.

 Assist and support employees who are known to have mental health problems or
are experiencing stress outside work – for example due to bereavement or
separation.

 Ensure employees are provided with the resources and training required to carry
out their job.

 Monitor workloads to ensure that people are not overloaded.


 Monitor working hours and overtime to ensure that employees are not
overworking, and monitor holidays to ensure that staff are taking their full
entitlement.

 Ensure employees are provided with meaningful developmental opportunities.

 Ensure that employees performing management or supervisory functions have


sufficient competence to discharge that function in a manner consistent with the
maintenance of mental health in the workplace

2. HUMAN RESOURCES

 Organize training and awareness courses on workplace mental well-being in conjunction


with suitable experts.

 Provide advice and support to employees and managers in relation to this policy.

 Monitor and report on levels of sickness absence which relate to mental health
problems including stress-related illness (in conjunction with the occupational health
service and departmental managers).

 Monitor and review the effectiveness of measures to promote mental wellbeing.

3. EMPLOYEES

 Raise issues of concern and seek help from immediate superior or human resources.

 Accept opportunities for counselling when recommended.

REVIEW AND MONITORING:

The Human Resources Department will be responsible for reviewing the workplace mental well-being
policy and for monitoring how effectively the policy meets its aims and objectives.

Indicators to measure effectiveness could include:

 working hours and patterns


 accidents at work
 employees complaints
 employees sickness levels
 employees turnover
This Policy will be e reviewed six months from implementation and then annually thereafter to ensure
that it remains relevant.
