NSTP 2 – Final Exam

Questions:
1. Emphasize the importance of studying the NSTP subject as a student and future professional.

It is very essential for a student to complete the course NSTP because there are so many valuable
life lessons and knowledge it offers for us to become better citizens of the country. This program
allows every student of tertiary education to know our rights, increase awareness of present events
and instill values we must possess to be a good citizen of the Philippines such as nationalism and
patriotism. Undergoing the training of any of its three categories will help in self-improvement and
increase community involvement that our country needs to establish a better society. Having the
experiences of community immersion, an individual will be able to expand his or her understanding
about the problems and real needs of other people. As a future professional, it will also serve as a
defense preparation for the future circumstances through the skills practiced, gained knowledge and
values that was instilled during the two-semester course period. If the country will suffer from wars,
disasters, and unfortunate events, you will be called to help in restoring order and peace using your
expertise in the program.

2. Tackle the relevance of community immersion to the national development through local
student initiatives under NSTP.

The community immersion project under the course NSTP will gave the students experiences on
how to handle our local’s current situations. They will have the opportunity to see the reality of
unfortunate people who are suffering in poverty and deprived from their rights to call for
government’s help. As witnesses of these circumstances, students will learn to be grateful and this
value will manifest their initiative to create ideas in assisting other people’s needs. These real-life
encounters by the students will inspire them to share their knowledge to the community especially to
those who are not fortunate to have a good education. This kind of initiative will awaken the local
government to provide more projects for each barangay especially the leaders are aware that students
will support them in fulfilling these development steps.

3. Based on the current situation, what gap exists between the ideals of the community people
and reality?

During these unprecedented events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the gap of expectations and
reality is present in our community that affects the perception of each citizen towards the government.
Most of the people from middle and lower class do not have access to their work fields that results to
a “no work, no pay” policy. Because of the safety measures and laws implemented by the local, these
people stay at home and hoping for the subsidies from the government. They are expecting to be
assisted by our local government. Unfortunately, most of them are not qualified and this increases
their resentments and rage. As a result, more volunteers continuously provide assistance to our front
liners and citizens. There is also a gap in time that is present since a longer community quarantine will
result to a downfall in our economy. There were ineffective ways implemented in giving these
subsidies. Citizens are expecting to get their cash aid in a short period of time, but social media
reveals that it takes longer process. Overall budget is finite and cannot provide the needs of millions
in such period. This pandemic shows how your standing in the society affect one’s life. More benefits
for the privileged and lesser opportunities for the normal ones.
4. Illustrate the problems, issues, and concerns in the communities of the contemporary times
that impede the goals of the people in locality.

Most of the people in the community wanted to have opportunities to enter a job or business to
improve their way of living. An effective local government is a big factor in achieving these
objectives. They were the leaders who will create and implement projects for the betterment of entire
community. However, issues like corruption, economic inequalities and violence influence the
perception of our community people in achieving their goals. For instance, population in the
community is rising and there is a huge demand for employment. The local government unit must
provide job fairs that is open for everyone. Sometimes, the problem is local leaders are not aware of
their community’s situation that they are failing to provide the needs of public. As individuals, we are
entitled with rights that includes the right to live, choose and freely express ourselves to the public.
We have this freedom to give out our opinions especially on the present situations happening in our
society today. They are threats and existing consequences if we choose righteousness over the local
leaders. These social problems deprived us from using our voices to raise our concerns.

5. Explain by highlighting the extent of the problem and how these concerns affect the
community in general.

The main concern is people are unprivileged to meet their personal goals, not because it is a
choice but rather there are lesser opportunities. Both citizens and local government is affected by
these social concerns since they both rely on each other. Highlighting the dilemma in poverty,
uncontrolled population growth may worsen the situations and crime rate chances increases. It affects
the entire community because it shows how can they handle these situations. If the current leaders fail
to provide effective solutions, how can they provide efficient solutions for more serious cases and
circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic? Being involved in the community is vital since you are
supporting and helping to solve these situations.

6. How prepared are you, your family, and your community when there is a DISASTER? Give
two examples of disasters that could put your country at great risk and explain what you
think you can do to mitigate its potential impact on the community.

Considering the resources and awareness level of my family, I can say that we are prepared when
there will be a disaster. For my friends and community, it is very important to share our knowledge
from NSTP 1 and 2 to increase awareness and safety precautions before, during and after a natural
disaster. Even with this pandemic situation, we must be prepared, follow the law and observe proper
safety measures to avoid worsening the situation. In my own opinion, the two dangerous disaster for
the Philippines would be a pandemic and super typhoon. We already witnessed the effects of super
typhoons because of our geographical locations and currently learning the results of a pandemic. I can
lessen its harmful effects by spreading my knowledge about disaster preparedness through social
media sites. And for the people inside my community, I can volunteer or participate in providing
seminars about this topic since I already experienced these in NSTP. The true value NSTP has taught
me is to share because not all students had the privilege to take this course subject. It is now my duty
to apply these in real life and help others in building a better society.
