    Oral Communication in Context Grade 11

    Session Topic : Functions of Communication


     Social Interaction

    Objectives:

    At the end of the session, the students will be able to:

     Identify the rules on relaying information in a particular social conversation;


     Present a dialogue depicting proper social conversation based on a given
    setting.

    Duration : 1 hour

    ACTIVITY (10 minutes)


    Say it!

    In this activity, the students are asked to respond on the situation given.

    1. You will like to ask for a glass of water to the waiter. (in the restaurant)
    2. You will request to borrow books to the librarian. (in the library)
    3. You want to offer help to your teacher. (in the classroom/office)

    ANALYSIS (20 minutes)

    Guide questions:

    1. Based on the activity given, how did the character state his/her request to the
    waiter / librarian?
    2. Do you think the speaker follow rules in conversation concerning age, status,
    and intention/ purpose of the speaker?

    Explain the importance of social interaction through a powerpoint presentation.

    APPLICATION (30 minutes)

    In a group of five (5), Each group will make a dialogue maintaining social
    interaction based on the following setting:
    Group 1: Telephone Conversation
    Group 2: Make a Hotel Reservation
    Group 3: Introduce your girlfriend to your teacher
    Group 4: Inquire for a new cellphone to a sales lady
    Group 5:Ask location of the principal’s office

    Follow this criteria:


    Proper use of expressions – 10 pts
    Delivery - 5 pts.
    Clarity of voice - 5 pts
