The document discusses extended service contracts (ESC) for Caterpillar diesel generator sets, outlining the different coverage levels and components covered, as well as additional allowances included with higher coverage levels.

The Silver, Gold, and Platinum coverage levels cover increasingly more components, with Platinum covering all components shipped from the factory with Cat part numbers. The Platinum Plus level provides additional coverage for components installed by an authorized dealer.

Higher coverage levels provide allowances for emergency freight, crane and rigging costs, overtime labor costs, and increased travel and mileage limits before additional charges are incurred.

Data for 1400, 1600, 1700, 1800 and 1900 frames Caterpillar SR5
generators built by Leroy Somer - USA and Leroy Somer France.

Refer to DM7821 for explanation of all generator data in Technical

Marketing Information (TMI) except generator efficiency for which the
explanation is given below.

GENERATOR EFFICIENCY
Generator efficiency is the percentage of engine flywheel (or other
prime mover) power that is converted into electrical output. The
generator efficiency shown is calculated by the summation of all
losses method, and is determined in accordance with the IEC Standard
60034. The efficiency considers only the generator. There is no
consideration of engine or parasitic losses here.

Refer to DM7829 for low and medium voltage protective setting values a

Robust Components = Long Life + Reliable Starts
• Heavy-duty forged terminal post bushings provide maximum strength and resistance to acid seepage that causes corrosion
and black posts. Thicker internal terminal posts provide lower electrical resistance and higher cold cranking amp output.
• Rugged microporous polyethylene envelope separators protect against “shorts” and vibration damage. Deep Cycle
batteries utilize double insulated Glass mat separators for longer cycling life.
• Maintenance Free batteries utilize calcium lead alloy on both positive and negative plates that reduces gassing and water
consumption. Automotive batteries have Silver (Ag) Calcium Alloy Grids for resistance to high underhood temperatures.
• Heavy-duty, full frame battery grids with no sharp edges. An optimum acid/paste combination provides better charge
acceptance after a deep discharge.
• Positive and Negative plates are anchored to the container bottom and the cell element is locked at the top for maximum
vibration resistance. Straps are thicker, heavier and cast (not welded) into the plates.
• Manifold vented cover with built-in Flame Arrestor…a safety feature that directs corrosive gases away from the battery
and hold-downs.
• Robust reinforced case provides extra strength in all temperature extremes. Brickwork design on sides reduces chance of
punctures and case flexing. Embossed part number and descriptors for easy serviceability.

Generator Space
Heater
for 1400 Frame*

Picture shown may not reflect actual configuration

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Humidity is a natural enemy of generators and all electrical equipment.
Space heaters are designHG to protect generator windings from abnormally high humidity conditions when the
generator is idle. The heater maintains the air around the windings at a suitable temperature to prevent
winding corrosion due to condensation.
Generator space heaters use electrical resistance and are located within the generator stator housing.
Space heaters are particularly recommended for generator sets located in a low ambient and/or high humidity
environment. As a further benefit, space heaters provide an excellent method of drying out a generator after
long transit or storage.
Because space heaters are required only during non-operative periods, they require availability of a power
source separate from the generator set itself.
When the generator set is not running the heater automatically connects to the AC supply through a power relay
mounted in the control panel. Upon receiving a start signal the AC supply is automatically disconnected by the
power relay and automatically reconnected when the start signal is removed.
The 1400 frame space heater uses two heating elements.
Heating elements avalible in two voltages: 127V and 230V.
Heater elements electrical data:
• Voltage - 230V, Power - 500W.
• Voltage - 127V, Power - 500W.

Linear Spring-Type
Vibration Isolators
for C27, C32, 3512, 3516

Picture shown may not reflect actual configuration

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The most effective isolators for low frequency vibration are of steel spring design. They can isolate up
to 95 percent of all vibration and noise transmitted from rotating machinery to the foundation or
mounting surface. Conversely, isolators can absorb disturbances generated by adjacent machinery
and prevent damage from being transmitted to idle equipment.

Spring-type linear vibration isolators are available as attachments for listed generator sets to be used in
stationary applications. These isolators permit mounting the generator set on a surface capable of supporting
only the static load.

Spring-type isolator is an all welded steel telescoping housed isolators. Each isolator is packaged with
three (3) spring inserts. The springs are freestanding stable springs and are designed for 19 mm
(0.75-inch) deflection at rated load. The spring wires meet/comply with: SAE 1065, ASTM A229-56,
MIL QQ-W-428 Type 1

Each isolator is furnished with spring adjusting bolts, resilient neoprene alignment inserts and non-skid
neoprene acoustical pad cemented to the base plate.

AFBUP, AFBUP-S, AFXUP, AFXUP-S MOTORIZED LOUVER MOTOR
On/Off, Spring Return, 24 to 240 VAC

Torque min. 180 in-lb, for control of air dampers

Application
For On/Off, fail-safe control of dampers in HVAC systems. Actuator sizing should be
done in accordance with the damper manufacturer’s specifications. Control is On/Off
from an auxiliary contact, or a manual switch.
The actuator is mounted directly to a damper shaft up to 1.05” in diameter by means
of its universal clamp. A crank arm and several mounting brackets are available for
applications where the actuator cannot be direct coupled to the damper shaft.

Operation
The AFB and AFX series actuators provide true spring return operation for reliable fail-
safe application and positive close off on air tight dampers. The spring return system
provides constant torque to the damper with, and without, power applied to the
actuator.
The AFB and AFX series provides 95° of rotation and is provided with a graduated
position indicator showing 0° to 95°.
The actuator may be stalled anywhere in its normal rotation without the need of

Material Selection Guide
The first consideration is the type of liquid, temperature
and pressure to which the switch will be subjected. Madison
COMPONENT

manufactures liquid level switches in various styles, in a

variety of materials, to cover a broad range of conditions.
Following are some basic recommendations for selecting
the proper liquid level switch material for your application. See Approvals pages in Reference Section

Material Application

316 Stainless Steel For high-temperature (to 300°C), high-pressure (to 300 PSIG) and
corrosive conditions. Commonly used in food processing, medical,
heating and cooling equipment.

Polypropylene For acidic conditions, such as found in electroplating and metal

Polysulfone cleaning. Another choice for lower-temperature (to 105°C) food
processing applications (Madison Company uses only polypropylene
that is FDA-approved for food contact). Also a good choice for
general-purpose applications in commercial or consumer appliances
and equipment. Available in white and other colors.

Brass & Buna-N The selection for petroleum-based liquids, such as lubricating oils,
PBT & Buna-N gasoline and diesel fuels. Widely used in storage tanks of vehicles,
generators, transmissions and hydraulic systems. Other uses are in
lubrication, recovery, refining and fuel processing equipment.
Please note: PBT is not suitable for use in temperatures above 130°C.

Kynar Chemical- and solvent-resistant properties make this material a

PTFE problem solver for many applications. Its high-purity nature is ideal
for food handling and sensitive laboratory or test equipment.

Once a suitable material has been selected, the type of switch and configuration are the next
considerations. Madison Company stocks a full line of standard products that can meet the
requirements of many applications. For specific designs, Madison can custom-build, to order,
switches with an infinite number of variations and options. Please utilize our M & MT Series
single-level specification sheet which, when completed, will allow our engineering department to
better meet your needs.

All specifications are subject to change without notice.
