Equity market
Year-to-date NSE 20 Share Index and FTSE NSE 15 gained 17.06 % and 25.73% to settle at 4765 and 155 points re-
spectively at the end of April 2013. Within the same month, market capitalization hit a historical mark of Kshs 1.6
trillion, gaining Kshs 214 billion in the period January-April 2013. Foreign investors’ participation slipped to 43% in
April 2013 from 48% in March 2013.
Actively traded counters during the month of April 2013 were: Safaricom, Kenya Commercial Bank, Mumias Sugar

Bond market
April 2013 bond turnover was up 35% to Kshs 35 billion from the previous month’s figure of Kshs 26.0 billion.
The most traded bond was a 12 year infrastructure bond, IFB1/2011/012, which had 174 deals at a high and low
yield of 13.50% and 10.30% respectively. It was followed by a 10 year bond, FXD1/2012/010, trading 118 deals on
high and low yield of 13.86% and 12.80% respectively.
