RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN PROMOOT

1) Eligibility & Registration

a) ProMoot is open for all students pursuing three years or five years
integrated LL.B. courses from any recognized law school/s, universities and
institutions recognised by the Bar Council of India. LLM students, and
those pursuing diploma courses in law are not eligible to participate in
ProMoots.

b) Participation in ProMoots requires a mandatory one-time registration on


the ProMooters website (​www.promooters.com​). Registration enables
access to the moots that are held throughout the year. Registration
requires interested students to upload a copy of their official college
identification cards. In case of any doubt with respect to the official college
ID card of a participant, the Organizers may further require the student to
furnish a letter from the institute attesting to his/her enrolment status.

c) ProMoot is a single participant event. Team registrations are not permitted.


However, there are no restrictions on the number of participants from any
college, and no permissions are required from colleges/universities for
participation. Further, there is no restriction on the number of ProMoots a
student can participate in.

d) The language of the moot is English.

2) ProMoot Memorial

a) A ProMoot Memorial is a concise format of a regular moot memorial.


Participants will be required to present jurisdiction, issues, provision of
law, citations, summary of arguments and prayer in the prescribed format.
Memorials in any other format other than the provided format will not be
accepted. Footnotes, endnotes, indices, and appendices need not be
provided. Case laws relied upon in the memorial should be attached in a
PDF format. Please ensure that case law files are renamed in the following
format “[name of petitioner] vs. [name of respondent]”. For more details,

b) ProMoot Memorials must be submitted on or before the scheduled cut-off


date indicated in the ProMoot Calendar of Events. Late entries will not be
accepted.

c) Participants must submit ProMoot Memorials for both sides of the problem
statement to participate in ProMoot. Participation in oral rounds in any
ProMoot shall be based on submission of the ProMoot memorial on or
before the cut-off date. For more details on the Calendar of Events, please
refer to the last page of the ProMoot problem statement. Please note that
any incomplete memorials shall entail disqualification.

d) The Organizers shall have sole rights over the submitted ProMoot
Memorials.

e) Additional rules for participants in respect of submission of ProMoot


memorial -

(i) Participants are strictly prohibited from mentioning their


college/university name or any such identifier in the ProMoot Memorial.

(ii) It is the onus of the participants to verify the side for which the
content is being uploaded. Once submitted, modifications/rectification of
the ProMoot Memorial will not be permitted.

(iii) Participants must adhere to strict academic ethical standards in


preparation of their ProMoot Memorial, and plagiarism will result in
disqualification of the participant.

3) Oral Rounds

a) The Oral rounds will be conducted live on a virtual platform in English. Oral
submissions in other languages will not be permitted. There will be no
requirement for physical presence of any participant.

b) The Oral rounds will follow the following format:

Qualifiers All confirmed participants will participate in the


Qualifiers. The top 20 ranked participants will
proceed to the Challenger round.

Challengers The top 20 qualifiers will compete in the


Challenger Round. The top 4 ranked participants
will proceed to the Final round.
Finals The top 4 Challengers will compete in the Final
Round. Participants with the highest marks in the
Finals of the Oral Rounds shall be declared as the
winner of the ProMoot followed by runner up.

c) The allotted time for oral rounds will be 10 mins for Qualifiers, 10 mins for
Challengers and 15 mins for Finals. 5 mins will be allocated in each round
for questions by the judges. 5 mins will be allotted for rebuttals in the
Challengers and Finals. Participants should strictly adhere to the time limit.

d) Upon successful submission of the ProMoot memorial, participants will


receive a virtual platform link 72 hours (3 days) before the orals rounds as
well the side for which they will be arguing for. The results of the qualifier
round will be announced by 7 pm on the same day.

e) Participants who qualify to the challenger round will receive the virtual
platform link as well as the side for which they will be arguing for, 12
hours before the challenger round. The results of the challenger round will
be announced within 2 hours of completion of the challenger round.

f) The participants who qualify to the finals will receive the virtual platform
link 2 hours before the final round commences and results will be
announced within 1 hour of completion of the final round.

g) Rules & etiquette during the Oral Rounds to be observed by all participants

I. Dress professionally – A blazer, tie and formal wear shirt for


men and formal indian/western wear and a blazer for women

II. Use a professional background – Find a quiet place where you


will have minimal disturbances. Use a professional or neutral
background.

III. Use a good quality camera, earphones/headphones, and a


high-speed internet connection – A virtual moot requires your
video and audio to be heard with great clarity.

IV. Keep your video on at all times and mic muted unless called
upon to speak.

V. Do not interrupt your fellow participants or judges.


VI. The virtual presence of the participant is required throughout
their oral round and he/she will not be permitted to leave the
round.

h) Apart from participants, no other person will be permitted to attend the


ProMoot oral sessions, including faculty, coaches, friends or family. The VC
link shared with each participant is confidential and should not be shared
with anyone. If it is found that the link has been shared without our prior
permission, the Organizers reserves the right to disqualify the participant
and/or blacklist the participant from other ProMoots. Participants will not
be permitted to share screens or any other additional information during
the oral rounds.

i) Because of the nature of the moot, there may be some technical issues
faced by participants/judges. The Organizers will work towards
accommodating these difficulties to the extent that is possible from their
end. However, in case of technical issues disrupt the ProMoot proceedings,
the Organizers, in their discretion, shall have the right to remove the
participant from the session amounting to disqualification. The Organizers
will not be responsible for arranging for any internet connection for any
participant.

4) Scoring Format

a) Participants will be scored in the Qualifiers, Challengers and Finals on the


following marking scheme:

b) In case of score-ties in the Qualifiers/Challenger Rounds, the ProMoot


Memorial marks shall be used as a tie-breaker. In case of a tie in ProMoot
memorial scores, the participant having higher marks in each marking
criteria will proceed to the next round.

c) The marks awarded by the judges will be final. Participants are strictly
prohibited from approaching judges regarding the marking or the rounds.
Feedback and interaction sessions will be organised with judges for
participants who qualify to the Final round at the discretion of the
Organizers.

5) Prizes

a) The winner of each ProMoot will be awarded a cash prize of INR


10,000/- and an e-Certificate. The Runner-up will win a cash prize of
INR 5,000/- and an e-Certificate. All participants of ProMoot will be
awarded an e-Certificate for participation. The results will be
announced on the ProMooters portal, social media as well as on
promotional material of ProMooters.
b) The amount and payment terms of cash prizes are subject to change
without prior intimation to the participants or any stakeholders at the
discretion of the Organizers.

6) Miscellaneous.

a) Where a participant is of the opinion that a violation of rules has taken


place, he/she may reach out to the Organizers on
contact@promooters.com and the Grievance Cell constituted for this
purpose will look into the complaint. All complaints will be addressed
only to the Grievance Cell by participants and the decision of the
Grievance Cell on the complaint will be final and binding on the
participants. All complaints will be kept confidential.

b) Feedback on ProMoots and suggestions may be shared with the


Organizers on ​contact@promooters.com

c) Organizers reserve the right to amend, modify, change or repeal any


of the ProMoot rules at any stage. Any change in the competition rules
will be communicated to the participants in advance.

d) Unauthorised sharing of username and password is prohibited, and


may result in disqualification and/or blacklisting from ProMoots.

e) Audio video recording of the oral rounds by participants is disallowed.


Recording from an external device is prohibited. Participants shall be
given access to photographs of the event by the Organizers and shall
be permitted to share the same on social media, etc.

f) Organizers reserve the right to record the oral rounds for promotional,
analysis and archiving purposes. The sole copyright over the said
recording and copies of the recordings vests with the Organizers, and
will not be provided to the participants.

g) Any event not covered by these rules will be decided by the Organizers
and the decision will be final.
