And Its Effect
Introduction
 Demonetization means discontinuity of particular currency from circulation and
replacing it with a new currency.

 Earlier, demonetization was done in the year 1946 and 1978 but with no
accomplishment.

 It was the 3rd time when our honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi announced
the demonetization in India and scrapped the notes from Indian economy.

 According to a report published by Reserve Bank of India, approximately 99.3% or Rs.


15.30 lakh crore demonetized banknotes had been deposited back to the banking
system.
Objectives of the Study
 To know the reasons for demonetizing the high denomination
currencies
 To analyze the sector-wise impact of demonetisation on economy
 To explore the effect of demonetisation on economic growth

 To curb black money
 To hit the fake currency racket
 To curb corruption
 To stop funding unlawful activity like terrorism
Demonetisation - Planned or Planned Move?
 Appointing a Special Investigation Team (SIT)
 Implementing the ‘Black Money Act, 2015’ (Undisclosed Foreign Income and
Assets). A 90 day compliance window was provided, where the GOI allowed a
person to make a declaration of undisclosed assets located outside India.
 Implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan DhanYojana (PMJDY) scheme, licensing
of ‘Mobile Wallets’ / ‘Payment Banks’ as a measure of ‘Financial inclusion’.
 Linking of bank account with Aadhar and subsidies through Aadhar-linked
bank accounts.
 Necessitating the disclosure of all bank account details in income tax returns.
 Implementing an income disclosure scheme (IDS) 2016, +
