Family Pack Downloader

User's Guide
Family Pack Downloader is an application that enables you to download the latest Dell family driver packs for your Dell systems.

The Dell family driver packs contain the latest factory validated set of hardware drivers for each supported system model. You can
use the family driver packs to restore your Dell gold image to multiple supported systems by using the Dell ImageAssist restore tool.

This document provides information about downloading family driver packs by using Family Pack Downloader.

Downloading Family Pack Downloader installer package


1. Visit the Dell Family Driver Packs page on Dell TechCenter.
2. Click the download link.
Download of the Family Pack Downloader installer package is initiated.

Installing Family Pack Downloader


Prerequisites
Ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 or later is installed on your system.
Steps
1. Right-click the Family Pack Downloader installer package and click Run as Administrator.
The Family Pack Downloader — End User License Agreement page is displayed.
2. Read the license agreement, click I Agree, and then click Next.
The default installation path of Family Pack Downloader is displayed.
3. If you want to install Family Pack Downloader in a custom location, click Browse and select the folder.
4. Click Next.
5. Click Install.
Installation of Family Pack Downloader is initiated. After the installation is complete, the Family Pack Downloader |
Configuration page is displayed. A Family Pack Downloader shortcut icon is created on the desktop.

Opening Family Pack Downloader for first time


1. Double-click the Family Pack Downloader desktop icon.
The Family Pack Downloader | Configuration page is displayed.
2. In the Verify Web Connectivity section, ensure that the download capability test is successful and click Next.

The General section is displayed.
3. If desired, change the default download location of the family driver pack and click Next.
The Driver Pack Filter section is displayed.
4. Select the system models for which you want to download family driver packs and click Save.

The Family Pack Downloader page is displayed.

Configuring Family Pack Downloader


Prerequisites
• Ensure that the download capability test is successful. For instructions to manually verify the download capability, see Manually
verifying download capability.
• If desired, change the default family driver packs download location. For instructions to change the default family driver packs
download location, see Changing default family driver packs download location.

About this task


You can configure Family Pack Downloader to download family driver packs for your system models. After you save your
configuration, you can click Check for Updated Drivers to enable Family Pack Downloader to automatically verify and download:

• Newer versions of the family driver packs


• Family driver packs that you have not downloaded earlier

NOTE: You do not have to select your system models each time you open Family Pack Downloader. You have to select
system models only if you want to download family driver packs for additional supported system models.
Steps
1. Double-click the Family Pack Downloader desktop icon.
The Driver Pack Filter section is displayed.
2. From the system model tree, select the system models for which you want to download family driver packs.
By default, the operating system tree displays all supported system models. You can also filter the system model tree based on
your system models. For instructions to filter the system model tree, see Filtering system model tree.
3. If you want to delete the older versions of the selected driver packs in the download location, select the Delete older versions
of selected driver packs if they exist in the download location? option.
4. Click Save.
The Family Pack Downloader page is displayed.
5. Click Check for Updated Drivers.
Download of the family driver packs is initiated, and the status is indicated on the progress bar.

Filtering system model tree


About this task
You can use the search box on the Driver Pack Filter section to filter the system model tree. Filtering the system model tree enables
you to quickly select your system models.

Steps
1. In the search box, enter your system models as comma-separated values.
For example, M3800, E5500, 3011AI0, 3450.

2. Press Enter or click the icon.


The system model tree is filtered based on the system models you entered.

Manually verifying download capability
About this task
You can verify the download capability of your system to ensure that the download of your family driver packs are successful.

Steps
1. On the Family Pack Downloader | Configuration page, ensure that the Verify Web Connectivity section is selected.
2. Click Verify Download Capability.
The network connectivity and the download capability are verified. If the verification was completed successfully, the Download
capability test was successful! message is displayed.

Changing default family driver pack download location


Prerequisites
Ensure that your user account has read and write permission on the system.

About this task


By default, the family driver packs are downloaded at C:\Dell_Driver_Packages_Local. If desired, you can change the default
download location of the family driver packs.

Steps
1. On the Family Pack Downloader | Configuration page, in the Verifying Web Connectivity section, click Next.
NOTE: Ensure that the download capability test is successful.
2. In the General section, click Browse, select a folder, and click OK.

Uninstalling Family Pack Downloader


1. Navigate to the Control Panel and double-click Programs.
2. Click Programs and Features.
3. Right-click Family Pack Downloader and then click Uninstall.
4. Click Uninstall.
