INTRODUCTION:
I am a student from Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) 3 rd year
college student. In this semester our subject is Supervised Industrial Training II (720
hrs.) or the OJT.
My knowledge as a student gained from the college professors are not enough
when only learned by pure imagination. That is why an internship or the so-called OJT
(On-the-Job Training) is created. This serves as a way that gives me a chance to apply
the lessons learned from the school. It also aids the students to achieve relevant
knowledge and skills through the actual experience in working in the field of their
profession. Thus, the workplace and the field serve as a new venue of learning for the
student.
For us students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to go
through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipments, and
documents. In effect, the work place becomes a development venue for us student
trainee to learn more about our chosen field and practice what we have learn from
academy.
On the other hand, a valuable OJT program also profits the companies who accept
trainees. First OJT or intern provides extra manpower for a less significant labor cost
than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager to learn the ropes so chances are
high that they’ll be given a chance to work on the same company as an employee after
graduating. Im so glad that I passed the exam of Moog controls corp. I’ve learn a lot of
things, I think I improves my communications skills I grew up and real mature in making
decision.

COMPREHENSIVE DESCRIPTION OF TASK/ASSIGNMENT

A. Area/Department assigned to
In my first day we have an orientation here in MOOG Controls about the
basic information of this company,And we discuss about the safety , the
hazardous chemical and we studied the hazardous chart for our safety.in
addition to that we studied the rules and regulations and also do’s and dont’s.
After a day, I was assigned to the BSA (BSA) Area in Components
department. during the latter part of the training until the completion of the
720 hours requirement .In the BSA Area, it is where the Bushing and Spool
was process from blank to finishing process. On my 3 rd day I was able to
observed how to run Internal Grind Machine.
This machine is used to grind the internal diameter to achieve or to get
what exact dimension is required.

And then the next day, I was able to run toyo internal grind machine
no.10107. in this machine I tried to set up tools , I practiced to change to
tools. In addition to that I learned how to use some gauges measuring
tools such as air comparator and dial test indicator. Mostly bushings are
worked in here. I also run in another toyo internal grind machine no.0427.
some big internal diameter of bushings are worked in here.they are
different in set up and programs.
I tried to study some windows of NC panel control In this machine. I
learned how to adjust the size or how many do you want to feed in the
work piece. I also learned how to change the programs.
in this company you need to know how to read the blueprint this is the
plan this is were you start the worked. If you don’t know how to read the
blueprint you cannot achieve the required size or what the costumers
wants to. That’s why in my first stage I learned how to know the
requirements the clearance, or tolerances in blueprint. It is very important.
After this I was able to observed how to run a surface grind.
In here the balancing of the wheel is so important. To avoid damage of
the work piece. I tried to do that of how to balanced wheel grind stone
using wheel grind balancing. In my first time I have a lot of struggles.it is
just like you are centering the worked piece in conventional lathe with four
jaw. It so hard but when you know some techniques and strategy that is so
basic. This is use to flat the surface of the work piece, after in surface
grind.

I was able to do shadowing in crush grind machine this is so cool

because in this process, the spools and bushings were formed as in the
blueprint. I didn’t run this machine but I learned a lot of things in this. Like
the grinding stones used in here are all formed.. it depend on what pieces
you will run. The stone called crush roll. Every couple of cycles the stone
will dressed automatically. That’s in the program. I learned how to use the
micro height gage.and also micro meter.

After a month I was able to work in deburring process. In my first day in

deburring process I observed how the workers work in here. They’re using
microscope to deburr the smallest and critical parts of models. They are
using air motors.
just like that pictures but that’s not the exact tools I’ve used in Moog.
I tried to use the microscope and air motor.and I practiced how to deburr
some holes or they called crossholes. In deburring I was given a chance
to used speed lathe machine.

I used speed lathe machine to break some edges of bushing or the o ring
grooves using indian stone. I learned here how to flapped the internal
diameter of bushings using air motor and split arbor and the adalox.
I also learned here how to buff a work piece in buffing area using red
nylon. I tried to use the kadia machine. It used to polish the work piece.
And I practiced how to use the sand blasting machine. It is used to deburr
some parts of the models.

Sandblasting can remove paint, rust, and residue from oxidation from

materials quickly and efficiently. Sandblasting can also be used to change
the condition of a metal's surface, such as through removing scratches or
casting marks.Sandblasting as a cleaning method has been
widely used for over a hundred years.

And then in deburring process I experience to use laser marking machine.

I run laser machine and I tried to mark some work pieces, symbol and
sequencial number.

This is important in models because this is the way to you to determine

the models, the mark the labels. And sometimes it helps you when it
comes in assembling some parts.

The other machine I’ve used in deburring process was extrude hone
machine.
it is used to refine the edges of the holes and the inside holes of the
models using the pressure of bottom and top cycle they compress the
media or the abrasive. Extrude honing, also known as abrasive flow
machining, is a finishing process that uses a highly abrasive and viscous
putty to polish, deburr, hone, and radius material in a single operation.

after in deburring process I was able to do shadowing in some machines

like hones machine and outside lapping machine. I also tried to observed
in outside diameter grinding. And after all I’ve been in cnc lathe machine

Some view Lathes as the only universal CNC Machine tool because a
lathe can make all of the parts needed for another lathe. A lathe spins the
workpiece in a spindle while a fixed cutting tool approaches the workpiece
to slice chips off of it. Because of this geometry, lathes are ideal for parts
that have symmetry around some axis that could be chucked up in the
spindle.

With CNC lathe machines, the material being worked is slowly sheared
away. The result is a beautifully finished product or intricate part. Because
these machines are so versatile, they are used by many industries to
include automotive, electronics, aerospace, firearm manufacturing,
sporting, and much more.
A CNC lathe can be used to produce plane surfaces and screw threads or
in the case of ornamental lathes, three-dimensional products that are quite
complex. In any case, the work piece is held firmly in place by one or two
centers, with at minimum one being moved horizontally. However, material
can also be secured with clamps or collets.

B. Measuring tools, Tools, Equipments I used in my training

Air Comparator – Pneumatic Comparators or Pressure Comparators |

Metrology|
A comparator is a precision instrument used to compare the Dimensions of a given
working component with the actual working standard.  There are different types of
comparators are available. In this article, we are going to discuss the Pneumatic
Comparators or Pressure Comparators

What are Pneumatics?

The instruments which are operated by the gas or air under pressure are called as
Pneumatic.

In Pneumatic comparators, air is used as the magnification system. Using the

pneumatic comparators enables two approaches for measuring the Deflection in
measurement by

1. Measuring the Air pressure

2. Measuring the Velocity of Airflow
The response of the comparator working on the airflow is quite faster when compared to
the comparator working on the air pressure. We can magnify up to 30,000 more than
the actual movement. This is all because there are no moving parts.

Let’s see, the working principle of the Pneumatic comparator which is sensing with the
air pressure.

Pressure sensitive Pneumatic Comparators/Pressure Comparators

Working Principle
The Pneumatic Comparators are working based on the Bernoulli’s Theory.

So what Bernoulli’s Theory says?

The Bernoulli’s theory states that: The velocity of the fluid will be increased with
respect to increasing pressure.

Micro hite gauge 350

Micro-Hite electronic vertical height gauge is widely used for measuring
precision parts in workshops or gauge rooms. This battery-powered instrument
eliminates the need for cables and glides on its own air cushion on a surface plate.
It can measure internal, external, height, depth and step dimensions of geometric
part features having either a flat, parallel or cylindrical surface.

OPTICAL COMPARATOR

An optical comparator is a device that applies the principles of optics for the inspection
of manufactured parts. In a comparator, the magnified silhouette of a part is projected
on a screen, and the dimensions and geometry of the part are measured against the
prescribed limits.
Optical comparators provide a cost effective solution for non-contact measurement.
Optical Comparators are found in shop and lab environments that are often related to
product manufacturing activity. An optical comparator is used for a wide range of
dimensional inspection applications. Optical Comparator horizontal models work well
with parts that need to be fixed, held in a vise, or on centers. Optical Comparator
vertical models provide accuracy and are ideal for parts that are placed on the glass
insert of the work stage. Optical Comparator vertical systems work well when the parts
to be measured are flexible or soft.

C. Technical skills applied while on training:

 Setup the tools– you need to check the tools or cutting tool of machine. To
avoid damage of work pieces, change it if necessary.
 Changing the oils of machines – you need to maintained the oils, coolant of
machine for the long life of the machine
 Metrology – how to use measuring dimensions, measuring units and proper
use of measuring tools. (e.g. Micrometer)
 Blueprint reading – how to read the different parts of a blueprint, such as
basic engineering drawing formats, line types, engineering drawing standards
and notes and symbols.
 5s – How to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by
identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and the items,
and sustaining the new order. Cleaning the working table and organizing the
tools before, during and after assembly.
 Safety- is very important to us trainee and to the employees because our life
depends on it. As a trainee we are aware of all the safety precautions,
emergency buttons, PPE’s like safety googles, gloves, smocks, masks. We
were oriented about the Emergency evacuation plan where we were assigned
to go to our designated muster location when emergency comes.

D. Reports, documentations prepared:

 Weekly reports (e.g. Weekly Activity Chart) – daily monitoring of activities and
output on a weekly basis.

 Daily Time Record – Daily monitoring of log in and log out in the MOOG
responsibility area.

PERSONAL INSIGHTS
For Six months of training , it was really kind of fun and a great experience for
me. In a short period of time, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, experience, memories and
friends.

I’ve learned a lot during the in plant trainings. I grew up my communication skills,
I stablish some fellowship in my area where I deployed. I met a lot of friends, cluster
leader, trainors, regular, fixterm, even though ojt from other schools. Because I know
good friends are like a stars. You don’t always see them but you know they’re always
there.
