Who we are

We are a group of Students from Queen Mary University of London, who are taking part in a
competition for corporates, The Million Maker Challenge. This challenge is to fundraise on
behalf of The Prince’s Trust, which is trying to raise £1,000,000 to help young people that
are unable to study or start-up their own business.

Our Initiative

We have created an initiative named “Society Wars” which is a set of three basic and online
games that will be played by more than 205 societies across London from different
Universities. Our initiative will have 2 stages a recruitment stage and a games stage.

Games

1. TikTok challenge; each society will have to a TikTok related to their societies (More
details will be given in September). For example, the Anime society will have to
imitate a character from one anime. This game will not take more than 5-10 seconds
and will help to get to know the “everyone”. All details will be provided by Queen’s
Knights once we are closer to the competition.

2. Tailored challenge; each society will have a different challenge which will take more
time than the first one, but it will also be more challenging. For example, the debate
society will have 5 minutes to record a video and mention 5 points that defend or
oppose a current global problem. All details will be provided by Queen’s Knights
once we are closer to the competition

3. Quiz; At the recruitment stage we will ask each society to come up with 5 questions
and at the end we will pick 1 or 2 questions from each society and create a quiz and
a little and fun competition through Kahoot. One Week after the Last Quiz, all the
results will be published through our Social media account

Rules

a. If a society chooses a different name than its University’s name, or is rude to

anyone, its society will be disqualified
b. If a society’s representative shares a Kahoot ID and this leads to more than 1
representatives of the same society, its society will be disqualified
c. If a society’s representative shares a Kahoot ID to anyone else and this leads
to confusion and delays, its society will be disqualified

Requirements

 Participants have to donate £5 per participant

 Societies have to sign up a minimum of 5 participants and maximum of 8
participants (This might change depending on Societies)
 Be member of a society that is chosen as part of our Society Wars ‘list

Stage 1

The recruitment stage will begin from 1st September 2020. The final day for the societies to
recruit 5-8 members would be the 14th October 2020. If there are any societies which fail to
recruit their members for the competition, an additional 5 days will be given. If there is a
shortage after the five-day period, the society would need to play with however many team
members are available. The very last day for recruitment to be completed would be the 19th
October 2020. In terms of how the teams are recruited, this will be up to the committee
member to decide. This could end up being an application form, a small competition, etc.
The approach of recruitment would need to be confirmed with Queen’s Knights managing
team. At the end of the recruitment process, the chosen teams will be revealed on the
Queen’s Knights social media page. This will give an opportunity for the teams and everyone
else to see who the competition would be (more information to be released soon).

During the period between 14th September and 14th of October we will give small challenges
in which all societies can participate, this will be known as “Society Battles” in which each
society will have the opportunity to involve as much participants as they can, the society
who completes all the challenges first, or involves the higher percentage of participants
from their society will be able to skip the TikTok Challenge, be safe of elimination and
participate in the following 2 games.

Preparation Phase

The preparation phase would be a time period where the chosen team would get to know
each and prepare for the upcoming wars. This would also be a time where the Queens
Knights would send additional information on things such as rules, games, timings, etc
(more information to be released soon). If all societies are able to recruit their members by
the first deadline, 10 days will be given from the 14th October in in order to prepare from
the list above. This would mean that the official society battle phase will end on the 24th
October. If there are 5 additional days needed, the phase would end on the 29th October.
The official society wars will begin the week beginning 1st November. The time in between
the ending of the recruitment phase and the start of society wars will be the resting period.

Stage 2

Our second stage will start on the 2nd of November, and will last until the 11th of December
2020. During this period, we will carry out our 3 games. Every week 2 universities will play
one of our challenges and one society will be able to participate in our second challenge.
Since we are part of Queen Mary University of London it would be unethical and biased to
judge the winners ourselves, therefore we will ask a society from a university that is not
playing the game on that week to help us judge the winner, nevertheless we will just double
check that their decision is fair and unbiased.
 TikTok Challenge (2nd November – 22nd November)

 Tailored challenge (23rd November – 6th December)

 Quiz (7th December- 14th December)

We will give one week to each society to complete each challenge.

The universities that we look to include in our games are: Queen Mary University of
London, University College London, Royal Holloway University of London, City University,
London School of Economics and Political Science, Imperial College, and Kings College
London.

With 32 different societies potentially participating from 7 different universities, in total

there is an estimation for 140 students within each society per university. In total, if all 32
societies are competing, there would be a total of 256 students representing one university
and 1,792 students in the competition as a whole (NOT CONFIRMED YET).

We understand that every society will be busy with events and activities. This is why we
have set up the competition in a way that would be short and fun. The games would not last
more than 15 minutes. These games would include things such as fitness games, society-
based games, etc. Not only would each society be competing for what they love, they would
be competing in games that are different each set of games played (more information to be
released soon).

This would be a tournament style competition. There would also be mini games in order for
societies to get ahead of the game. These work through donations from the university
students. Each university student can support their societies competing via mini games and
put an advantage for the societies (more information to be released soon).

Winning Teams

In terms of the incentives, each society that wins will be advertised through our Queen’s
Knights social media as well the winning society’s social media. This could potentially
showcase how great your society is and increase the number of members joining your
society.

Important Information

Each society will be updated on any and every change that is happening within the
competition. Each detail that is written on this document are subject to change depending
on circumstances. Please also not that this competition should not be taken seriously. The
purpose of this competition is to have fun but to also raise money for the Prince’s Trust,
which is an organisation run by Prince Charles to support young people who need
educational support. As a team, we are looking to raise £10,00 by the end of 6 months. The
‘Society Wars’ competition is our main initiative run alongside other smaller initiatives in
which information on that will be released soon.
