“We never know which lives we influence, or when, or why”, Stephen King. Teachers change

lives everyday without recognizing which students and when change is happening. I believe that

teaching is not a career choice for everyone. As teachers our students need us to be kind, caring,

and patient. These students need teachers who sincerely value their education. I believe anyone

can stand in front of a classroom and identify themselves as a teacher. In reality not everyone

posses the required qualities to become an effective teacher. I believe the best qualities of a

teacher consist of communication skills. In order for one to communicate effectively a teacher

must have superior listening skills. I believe the best teachers are the ones who are passionate

about teaching. Teachers should be dedicated to teaching and should be able to engage and

motivate their students to learn.

I’ve never been more sure of my decision to become an elementary teacher until I completing

observational hours inside a kindergarten classroom. The students were so welcoming and sweet.

They demonstrated good listening skills and respect for their teacher. It was incredible to watch

and see them expand their minds. They were excited to learn and very engaged in the lessons

instructed by the teacher. Through this experience I was able to view the classroom from both

the teachers and students perspective.

Every child deserves an equal opportunity to enhance their education and personal self growth. I

will make it priority to get to know an build a trusting relationship with each and every student,

which will allow me to identify best suited learning styles for each student. I understand that

every student is different and learns in different styles. As schools are changing and becoming

diverse, it will be important that I have knowledge about my students cultures and beliefs, which

will allow me to deal with ethical and behavioral dilemmas. I don’t see myself being the teacher

that’s always conducting a standard test to assess my students academic progress. I will integrate

performance a variety of assessment styles so that I can attempt to keep my students engaged in

their learning.

In conclusion, my goal as a teacher is to ensure that I provide the necessary tools and knowledge

to enhance and the education for all of my students. I believe that our children need passionate

teachers to educate and guide them through their educational journey. I believe all teachers

should be able to adapt and use methods to enhance the different learning styles required by their

students. I look forward to begin my teaching career. After completing my associates degree at

College of Southern Nevada I will transfer to Nevada State College to obtain my bachelors

degree. Also, after completing my associates degree I plan to begin a substituting career.

Substituting after obtaining my associates degree will allow me to explore and experience

classroom settings, which will allow me to enhance my educational philosophy.
