ABOUT SEPARATOR CUM STORAGE TANK

The function of separator cum storage tank is to separate the water particles
from the steam water mixture and store the water and pass through to
connecting sphere at low load (below supercritical pressure). But at full load
the supercritical steam just passes through the separator cum storage tank.

It contains internals for separation and external attachments to collect and


deliver the steam, water level & Supporting

Check the following details are available in the above

Check the Outside Diameter, Thickness and Length of
the shell and hemi head are same in the following
a. a) ASME Calculation sheet
b) Boiler Circulation analysis letter
c) Component model 3D drawings.
Hemi head is formed from plate, so the thickness is

Shell is from pipe material, so the thickness is

If shell MWT is equal to hemi head MWT or shell MWT
is greater than MWT of hemi head the edge preparation

Check the stem inlet / outlet nozzle offset dimension

Ensure steam inlet & outlet nozzle are in 5 degree slope

Vent nozzle may be a pipe or standard 1.5” socket


(weld end connection). Please check with ASME

calculation sheet, if details are not available, proceed
with 1.5” Standard socket.
For Inspection nozzle with end plug (OD, ID, Thickness,
length and Scarf details). Please refer ASME calculation

sheet. The location should be 20” below from the
bottom of steam inlet nozzle.
Pressure, Temperature and material specification

If shell length more then 180”. Please provide

Check the gap between steam outlet nozzles to hemi
7. head with weld details If gap is not sufficient increase
the shell length as required.
Ensure no stubs / lugs are welded on circumferential

Provide the standard 1” (socket weld end conn.) for
9. earthing boss. The location should be 5” (130 m) above
vertox breaker top plate.

10. Ensure insulation pad pitch is not more than 55-64”


Ensure erection lugs for down comer as provided as per

Ensure surface T.C Pad is provided at 6” (150mm) from

Check the P & I’D for number of pressure tapping and
