 Scheme of Career Award For Young Teachers

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of the scheme is to identify young talented teachers who

have established competence in their area of specialization. The scheme helps
them in promoting their professional growth by enabling them to devote
maximum time in research and study with minimum teaching responsibilities.

ELIGIBILITY

The scheme is open to regular teachers (who are not ad-hoc appointees
or temporary) working in AICTE approved Technical Institutions / University
Departments imparting technical education including Engineering and
Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Management, Pharmacy, Hotel
Management & Catering Technology, Applied Arts & Crafts. It may please be
noted that this award is neither a fellowship nor a scholarship.

Teachers having post graduate degree as minimum qualification with

consistently good academic career and a demonstrated aptitude with
commitment to research work, shall be eligible for the award. The age limit for
the award is 35 years as on the last date for application, with relaxation in age
up to 5 years for women teachers.

TENURE

The award is for a period of three years and this period should be
devoted to work on the project only, with a teaching load of minimum of 6
hours per week in the Institution where the awardee is presently working. The
awardees shall be treated as on duty and therefore they shall continue to earn
normal increments and shall maintain seniority in their respective Institute /
University / College. The awardee is not allowed to shift from the host
institution that is the institution where the awardee is working under this
scheme and the awardee will have to execute an undertaking with the
institution in this regard. In case the awardee shifts from the host institution,
the award will automatically get terminated and the award money released by
the AICTE to the Institution with respect to the awardee, will have to be
refunded immediately by the concerned Institution. The concerned Institution
will have to execute an undertaking to the AICTE in this regard.

The awardee will also have to execute an undertaking with the Host
Institution where the awardee is presently working, to work for 3 years at the
Institution after the completion of the award.

PLAN OF WORK

The applicant is required to submit a plan of work at the time of making

application. The experts examining the proposal may suggest some changes,
which have to be accepted by the applicant. During the tenure of the award,
the awardee has to stick to the plan. The changes suggested by the experts
evaluating the annual progress should be taken care of by the applicant. If the
awardee desires to change the work plan during the period of the award, this
can be done only after obtaining written permission from AICTE.

EQUIPMENT, BOOKS & JOURNALS

Any equipment, books, journals purchased under the scheme shall be

the property of the Institute / University / College. The books and journals can
be retained by the awardee, if so desired.

SERVICE PRIVILEGES

The awardee is entitled for holidays and such other service privileges
from the Institute as per the entitlements of the awardee in the
University/College/Institute.

* Subject to the approval /norms of the parent institute and as per the
AICTE Travel Grant scheme to attend International Conference/
Symposium/ Workshop.

FEEDBACK

The awardee shall submit a report on the project in the prescribed

proforma, each year through the Head of the Institute, which would be
reviewed in a ‘Mid Term Appraisal’ by an Expert Committee. The suggestions
and views of the experts of ‘Mid Term Appraisal’ would be conveyed to the
awardee for effective implementation of the project. If the Expert Committee
is not satisfied with the progress of the work, the award may be terminated on
the recommendation. The final report of the project should be submitted by
the awardee through the Head of the Department / Institution to the AICTE.

The awardee shall not be allowed for transfer of award from the
Institution where the Awardee is presently working during the entire tenure of
the award.

WITHDRAWAL OF AWARD

The AICTE may withdraw the award due to any reason, it thinks appropriate
including the following :

1. if the Expert Committee finds that the progress is not adequate

during Annual Appraisal;
2. if AICTE comes to know that the awardee is not pursuing the work
seriously or is deviating from approved work plan substantially;
3. in case of any financial irregularity; and
4. if the awardee shifts from the Institution where the awardee is
presently working. In this case there will be an automatic termination of
the award and the Institution (where the Awardee is presently working)

will have to refund any money that may be left over for the balance
period with respect to this scheme.
